In the early 2000s, when TV ratings for the Tony Awards seemed perennially stuck in the basement, Broadway fretted that CBS might ditch the telecast. Rumors swirled that the Tonys would go local, broadcast by NY1, Channel 13 or A&E Network (before it became “Law & Order” Network). Producers were terrified. The Tonys, even with low ratings, still boosted ticket sales. It was, back then, Broadway’s one and only chance to reach a national audience. And then, to the relief of the theater industry, word came down from CBS chief Les Moonves: “As long as I’m here, the Tonys will be here, too.” Moonves has been true to his word. The ratings have been up and down over the years, but Moonves and CBS have

The reason why The Tony Awards are a huge success for CBS every June is because like The Grammy Awards and The Oscars it's been a tradition for fans of Broadway shows to watch The Tonys because there's something magical and terrific about Broadway shows that makes them win awards. But I can't figure out why CBS became the king of The Tony Awards when ABC or NBC should've shown them. I think that when CBS airs the 2018 Tony Awards this Saturday the ratings for this year's Tony Awards will soar because when it comes to award shows CBS will be number one in TV

Thank you so much for the correction Catrule I was seeing an ad for The Tonys during LMAD and I thought it aired Saturday because I do know that LMAD does a Tony Awards themed episode as their season finale every year. I have never seen The Tony Awards before but if they had Idina Menzel or Kristin Chenoweth sing I would watch it

BestieThe Tonys traditionally air on the 2nd Sunday of June on CBS. It has been there for a long time but I am not sure when that started. Since Let's Make a Deal doesn't air on Saturdays or Sundays they would have to make the Tony themed finale air on a weekday.

The Tony Awards are horribly low rated because they are an embarrassing telecast. They are limited to 2 hours because of the bad ratings but the American Theatre Wing refuses to just make it an actors award show which is what people want to see. So the show is crowded with self congratulatory awards that no one at home has any interest in. Then the featured actor winners have 30 seconds to talk or they are hounded off the stage by loud music.

I believe that is the time and length they have aired for several years, at least since I've been checking listings.

They may have lengthened it. I haven't watched it in years being that it's so horrible.
