Vixen is getting a makeover of sorts, courtesy of Legends of Tomorrow. The female hero will join the cast of the CW drama as a series regular for Season 2 - but she won’t be played by Megalyn E.K., who portrayed the character on Arrow last season. Per TV Insider, due to the actress’ unavailability, an earlier version of the super-powered fighter will be introduced, and she may or may not share a historical tie to E.K.’s Mari McCabe. (You can thank Rip Hunter and his time-traveling abilities for that solution.) E.K. will continue to voice the animated Vixen on the network’s digital channel, CW Seed. Who should play the new old Vixen? Hit the comments with your suggestions!

"Legends of Tomorrow" Lands Its New Vixen: Maisie Richardson-Sellers To Play Animal-Powered Heroine on CW Show

Following the scheduling conflict-caused departure of the actress who portrayed the character in the fourth season of "Arrow", The CW has tapped Maisie Richardson-Sellers to play DC Comics heroine Vixen on "Arrow‘s" sister series "DC’s Legends of Tomorrow".

Richardson-Sellers will succeed Megalyn Echikunwoke, joining "Legends" as a series regular and newest crewmember of the Waverider when the show returns October 13 at 8 PM on the CW.

Rather than a straight recasting of the role, "Legends of Tomorrow" is taking advantage of the show’s time travel premise, bringing on Richardson-Sellers as a different incarnation of Vixen from an earlier point in time. In the comics, Vixen is the latest in a long line of heroes who, thanks to powers derived from the Tantu Totem, given to them by African mythological hero Anansi, can assume the abilities of any animal that exists on earth, along with a healing factor that makes her hard to kill.

Created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Bob Oksner in 1978, the character has notably fought alongside DC’s Suicide Squad and was later a member of The Justice League, most recently as part of DC Comics’ 2011 “New 52” reboot.

Richardson-Sellers will be playing Amaya Jiwe, grandmother to Echikunwoke’s Mari Jiwe McCabe.

The twist will allow Echikunwoke to continue to voice the character on the online animated Arrowverse spinoff "Vixen", and may possibly leave the door open to a cross-generational team up later down the line.
