Theresa Saldana dies; ‘The Commish’ star mourned by Michael Chiklis
by Maria Cavassuto, Variety at 02:06 PM on Jun 7, 2016

Theresa Saldana, who starred on “The Commish” and in “Raging Bull” alongside Joe Pesci, died Monday (June 6) in Los Angeles. She had been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai but no cause of death has been given. She was 61.

Saldana was best known for having survived a knifing attack by a stalker in 1982. She later went on to do victim advocacy work after her near-death attack. She founded the Victims for Victims organization that fought for anti-stalking laws, then played herself in the 1984 TV movie “Victims for Victims: The Teresa Saldana Story.” Her death was first reported by TMZ.

Saldana starred in multiple films in the ’70s but gained traction when she starred in Robert Zemeckis’ 1978 film “I Wanna Hold your Hand.” She then appeared in “Raging Bull” as the wife of Joey LaMotta, played by Joe Pesci.

Saldana also appeared in TV shows including “T.J. Hooker,” “Cagney & Lacey” and “Simon & Simon.” However, her first major role was as Rebecca Scali in the 1991 TV show “The Commish,” alongside Michael Chiklis.

Chiklis, who played her husband on the show, tweeted, “Painful to hear the news of Theresa’s passing. My family and I extend our love, condolences & support to her family in their time of grieving.”

She continued her work on TV with guest spots on “Law & Order,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “Martial Law,” “All My Children” and “The Bernie Mac Show.”

She is survived by her husband, Phil Peters, and a daughter.

The major networks have been tardy in reporting on her passing. I believe I heard today that Theresa had pneumonia.

This is very shocking and sad -- I enjoyed her work on The Commish. A young age for a woman especially, and for one who appeared to be healthy. It's also quite sad that she had to endure the stalking ordeal earlier in her life.

Remembering lovely Theresa Saldana, who passed away 6 years ago, I've selected some photos of this pretty lady. May she rest in peace.

Currently the "CHARGE!" channel is airing Season 1 of The Commish, so a new audience may enjoy Theresa's work on the series.

1983 - An amazing image, one look at her gorgeous face and it's very evident
why this young woman was eventually cast as a star in a network series:

1983 - Here is how I may remember Theresa looking, with long curly hair (note the length seen at
her right shoulder), and again a stunning face. She looks so young here, with significantly lighter eye makeup:

1984 - Theresa's hair is very long in this photo, held back with a ribbon
(she wore a white ribbon often, usually tied in a big bow), and the ends
are beautifully curled. Cute earrings & necklace:

1993 - I really like how Theresa is wearing her hair with bangs in this publicity
photo. Her wavy hair has lovely length and I think it suits her beautifully, so pretty:

1993 - A candid photo, quite nice:

1994 - Theresa's hair is pulled back somewhat, revealing lovely earrings, and curls are
returning in this style swept up off her forehead. She is elegantly radiant, just look at that smile:

1996 - Here we see Theresa has very curly hair, with slightly more length as her hair is
down around her shoulders. Again quite an elegant look, Theresa is wearing tasteful jewelry:

After looking through photos of Theresa, I've found that she was even more beautiful than I'd
remembered, with an ability to look lovely wearing different looks than those we were accustomed to.
