View Full Version : Windows10?
Penny Lane 06-04-2016, 02:10 PM Everyday I getting this pop up windows asking me to upgrade to Windows 10. Some one told me that this is mandatory and has to be installed by July 29. What's the deal? I don't want to upgrade. I am comfortable with my Windows 7. Do we have to? Is Windows 10 very different? I hate to have to learn another windows version! robyrob ? Can you fill us in?
Tubehead 06-04-2016, 02:34 PM i was watching tv then it was downloading windows 10!! it messed up my computer!! but my dad fixed it!! but i think if you got windows e-mail you may have to change it to windows 10 or get new one!! its going to be free for while then you got to pay for it!!
Adamantium 06-04-2016, 03:14 PM I kept ignoring it and then one day it just started installing it without my permission. I had a couple documents left open at the time and it closed them without saving them. One of them is an issue of a story I write. So I had to re-write it from memory and some notes I had written on paper. Really ticked me off, too.

I can relate. I didn't want to upgrade to Windows 10 either, but then one day my computer decided to do the upgrade on its own after I had stepped away for a bit. Windows 10 is supposed to be better, but for what I use computer for there isn't any noticeable improvement. There is one very minor problem that I've come across. It's just a task that I was able to do with Windows 8 that I'm not able to do with Windows 10. It involves Microsoft Zune, so there probably haven't been many complaints about it since nobody but me seems to use Microsoft Zunes anymore. Other than that I haven't had any problems. Windows 10 seems to be pretty simple to use.
Torgo 06-04-2016, 03:22 PM My wife's new laptop has Windows 10 and I'm not a fan of it.

I get that too on my Laptop, it came with windows 8, then it upgraded on it's own to 8.1 and now it wants to upgrade to windows 10. I just keep ignoring it. I guess one day I'll turn it on and it will have windows 10 installed. I wish someone would list the pros and cons of windows 10 and if it's totally free or not.

It's free.
Bonniegirl 06-04-2016, 07:29 PM I think that's what happened to mine! Remember when I was Bonnie2 for a couple days? It totally messed me up and confused me! My computer is really acting wacky now, weird stuff keeps happening everyday. Runs really slow too! It seems like it's about to crash any day now! We are pricing new computers!

Oh I should have mentioned at the start of my post. This was all after the update that was forced on me, that happened automatically out of the blue! :(
biffbronson 06-05-2016, 12:59 AM Mine's been running slow at times too. I got a "Win cleaner" at Big Lots for just $5, and when I run that it does help a little.
I guess I'm a dinosaur now with Windows 8 still. I tried to get Google Chrome and Firefox, but so far no luck getting either.
Dude111 06-05-2016, 09:52 AM I read on another site omeones computer was being "upgraded" to win 10 and he didnt want it and TURNED OFF HIS COMPUTER DURING THE INSTALL..... When he turned it back on it said "UPGRADE FAILED .. REVERTING TO YOUR OLDER OS" which he was happy with......
ponytail 06-06-2016, 05:55 AM I still have windows 8 and I am also getting those pop ups for window 10. I read you don't need to upgrade it if you are happy with what you already have.
robyrob 06-06-2016, 01:28 PM It's free.
for now.
after July 29th of this year they will start charging for Windows 10 upgrades, although we''l have to wait to see how they actually handle this.
I am not a super big fan of Windows 10. We have it on a couple of systems and it seems to be as buggy as Windows 8/8.1, and worse than Windows 7 or Vista in some respects. Certainly for security and stability it is worse, especially if you do what Microsoft suggests and let Windows 10 manage your updates and security it is far worse. You are better off manually updating your own drivers, and using your own Antivirus and Antispyware programs, and updating them and running them manually on a regular basis. On my wife's desktop I have had to reinstall Windows 10 from the ground up (completely erasing everything on the hard drive and doing a completely clean install) at least 3 or 4 times in the past year or so - I've never had to do that with any other version of Windows (but of course I haven't used Win8 much either). My tablet came with Win10 pre-installed, and it has had various issues with drivers and bad security settings right from the get-go.
I still think that you are better doing the upgrade now and getting the bugs worked out the sooner the better (as always back up all your stuff FIRST). So far every time someone has come up with a way around the background/forced Win10 upgrade, MS has just come up with a different way to force or trick people into the upgrade - which as pointed out here, can often happen at bad times and cause much inconvenience or worse loss of data or functionality. I am pretty confident that Win10 is designed to NOT work as well on older PC's and they are trying to spur on more new PC sales with this upgrade. To be fair though, I think that you can be just as stable and secure with a working older computer that came with XP - provided you can find programs that still work on it and aren't doing anything stupid or risky with it.
Family Ties Forever! 06-16-2016, 03:08 AM I think they like people to upgrade. I have Windows Vista. I'm sure I will have to upgrade.
