View Full Version : The Brady Bunch versus The Partridge Family JT 11-20-2001, 03:30 PM B Sean Snow 11-20-2001, 06:01 PM "The Partridge Family" They were more popular. 'Brady' never made it to the Top 30, 'The Partridge Family' did for around two seasons. wren 11-22-2001, 12:49 PM Partridge Family. More entertainment, great singing talents and they seemed to enjoy themselves more on the show than the Brady Bunch gang did. ------------------ Want to take a walk down memory lane? Visit my message board!!! TV Guy 11-23-2001, 04:32 PM The Partridges are cooler than the Bradys, and their show had better scripts (plus the lovely Shirley Jones), but somehow, "The Brady Bunch" has aged better. Cokies 11-24-2001, 04:20 AM Yep, Danny is hilarious. Always liked The Partridges better than the Bradys. Montana Ponine 11-24-2001, 03:30 PM I'd say the Brady Bunch. lukes42 11-24-2001, 04:49 PM My vote goes for the Brady Bunch. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/tv.gif SitcomFan 11-24-2001, 07:17 PM Brady Bunch best show JT 11-24-2001, 07:55 PM Here are the current results: Partridge-5 votes. Brady-3 votes. boechsner 11-26-2001, 12:53 AM The Brady Bunch, all the way. Back in the late 80's and early 90's, WXGZ Channel 32 out of Appleton, WI aired The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family back to back at 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and I just found The Brady Bunch so much more entertaining. The Partridge Family, although had a good theme song and a good cast, just was boring to me. In many ways, The Brady Bunch, for me, was and is more realistic then The Partridge Family. Beruche 11-26-2001, 12:56 AM I guess the Brady Bunch.I've only watched two episodes of The Partridge Family so I guess It isn't a fair choice. D&R 11-26-2001, 01:04 AM Brady Bunch opus 11-02-2015, 10:37 PM They're actually currently going head to head Sundays noon ET, with the Bradys on ME and the Partridges on Antenna. BigManMike 11-02-2015, 11:00 PM I don't know why you opened up a 14 year old thread. But anyways, I like the Brady Bunch best overall because the storylines and the actors were just more fun and entertaining. Although I like the Partridge Family too, and would probably say that the Partridges had better music then the Bradys. So I like them both for different reasons. opus 11-02-2015, 11:18 PM I don't know why you opened up a 14 year old thread.. If it covers my topic, I always prefer to bring up an old one than start a new one. Sometimes people notice, sometimes not.And it shows some of the history of the boards. Bonniegirl 11-02-2015, 11:47 PM If it covers my topic, I always prefer to bring up an old one than start a new one. And it shows some of the history of the boards. You ROCK!!! I LOVE when very old threads come to life again!!!;) I vote for the Brady Bunch!!! As a little girl Brady Bunch came out first!!! I was a big fan.;) Than the Partridge family came out and I was smitten with Keith as were many girls back than!!!;) But looking back and as of now, I think the Brady Bunch is a better and more entertaining show. And Peter is more my type and more crush worthy than Keith,( Joking on another thread about Greg, "Clowns never laughed before " just kidding, I NEVER had a crush on Greg) !! and even though Keith played guitar and was in a band ,but it was with his Mom and younger siblings!!!! I think the Partridge family would have been cooler if it had been teenage/early 20's siblings rather than with Mom and little kids!!! As a kid it was cool, watching now it just doesn't work for me, it's not very entertaining to me anymore, yet I can still watch the Brady's over and over!!!;) But than again, it depends on the ep!!!! If it was a particularly good ep or good guest stars on a Partridge family ep .that makes all the difference too! ;) OH Nuts! 11-03-2015, 12:54 AM The Partridge Family (Shirley is FABULOUS in it.) and the story lines are hipper. Sal 11-07-2015, 05:07 PM If it covers my topic, I always prefer to bring up an old one than start a new one. Sometimes people notice, sometimes not.And it shows some of the history of the boards. And if you were to look at the recent history of this board, you'll see that a popular topic is comparing favorite series, normally ones that tend to be fairly alike, ex: Addams Family vs Munsters, Bewitched vs Jeannie, etc. Out of that group, the Bradys vs Partridges debate is always fun to talk about to keep the long-lasting friendly rivalry going. As a big fan of both shows then and now, I always have a hard time picking a clear winner, but if I had to, I would say the Partridge Family by a close margin. I was more into the Partridges than the Bradys as a child and I've always thought of them as the underdog ever since the Bradys developed into pop culture icons through a seemingly endless series of tributes and reunion specials since they went off the air. If you were to just ignore all of that and go by the original series alone, the margin would still be very close, but I would still pick the Partridge Family. It remains to this day my 4th favorite sitcom of all time. The Bradys are close behind at #6 after The Monkees. Regulus 11-08-2015, 01:38 AM Both are good, but I'm leaning tword The Brady Bunch. HauntedThunderman94 11-09-2015, 03:11 PM The Brady Bunch Bonniegirl 11-09-2015, 04:38 PM But than again, it depends on the ep!!!! If it was a particularly good ep or good guest stars on a Partridge family ep .that makes all the difference too! Like yesterday a young Michael Lembeck (Max from One day at a time) guest starred who I really like. And his Father Harvey!! So I really enjoyed this ep. a lot! Also it was a good story too! James28 11-13-2015, 03:36 AM I wonder how come The Partridge Family ranked in the Nielsen Top 30 during its original run, while The Brady Bunch did not. The Partridge Family's Top 30 rankings during its run: Season 1: #25 / 19.8 Season 2: #16 / 22.6 Season 3: #19 / 20.6 Ratings-wise, I don't think The Brady Bunch was ever ABC's top sitcom. TBB was out-rated by Bewitched during its first year (Bewitched, in Season 6, had a 20.6 rating and ranked 24th for the 1960-70 season). I think only Top 30 Nielsen rankings are recorded, so it is really hard to tell what TBB's ratings during it original ABC network run were like. If I really had to make a guess, I'd imagine TBB's highest Nielsen ranking being in the 30-to-35 range. James28 07-30-2016, 09:55 AM Does anyone here just resent the fact that The Brady Bunch was never the top sitcom on ABC, because it was more successful in syndication than its original network run? It was all about Marcus Welby M.D., a medical drama, during that time. During the 1970-71 season (the 2nd season for TBB), Marcus Welby ranked number one in the yearly Nielsen ratings, and The Smith Family, a midseason replacement which would ultimately run for only two seasons, had a higher ranking than The Partridge Family (at #21, with a 20.6 rating). I'm guessing this is a consequence of ABC being the third-place network during that season, since CBS got all the Top-30 ranked sitcoms (Here's Lucy and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, among a few others). Marcus Welby was the first ever ABC show to be no.1. However for the final few years, I don't think it even made the top 30. I don't think it was the show itself, but viewers being burned out on all the medical dramas on at that time. That is what I had read. A couple of months ago, there was a thread on why Leave it to Beaver never made it to the top 30. I replied it was because it was on ABC. It wasn't until the second half of the 70's that ABC became more watched. king of comedy 08-03-2016, 07:51 PM Brady Bunch Yong Fang 08-10-2016, 11:12 AM I have seen all the Brady Bunch episodes as a kid, but rarely saw The Partridge Family in reruns in my local market. A station about a hundred miles away had the show, but it was too far to pick up (regional TV guide, lived in Memphis, KAIT-8 in Arkansas had it). Them in the 1980's when cable came in, the Brady Bunch seemed to be much more common that The Partridge Family. Tubehead 08-10-2016, 09:22 PM i always liked The Partridge Family!! they weren't perfect all the time!! i just think brandy bucnh is too much of an perfect family for tv!! lakesgirl 08-11-2016, 09:48 AM Brady Bunch. I think because I liked ALL of the kids. I really only liked Keith and Laurie on The Partridge Family. Plus, Danny annoyed me. IllinoisTVFan 08-11-2016, 01:41 PM Both. As a kid I got them confused because they are alike. I disagree that the Partridge Family was an adult show and the Brady Bunch was a kid show. Both of them were aimed at kids, though it's possible the Partridge Family had more teens because they did deal with more topical things than the Brady Bunch. I think this is partly why the Brady Bunch does better in syndication. Ironically Shirley Jones and Florence Henderson are good friends and Shirley Jones was offered the Brady Bunch first. Also interesting to note that on PF the mom was a working mother while BB this wasn't the case. Also, one show is all biological kids and the other is steps. There are a few things that bother me about both (and am a huge fan of both, own both series on DVD). On the BB my main problem is that they make blended families look easy. I'm not from a blended family but would never be part of a blended family because it's not how it looks. My main problem with PF is that they claim to be successful but why are they performing at more adult venues and fairs, things like that? if they were more successful then wouldn't they be performing better places? Granted neither issue is that major, just my main thoughts. I have always wondered why PF had major hits but BB did not. Sunshine Day could have been a big hit but wasn't. Crusinforabrusin 08-28-2016, 10:38 AM The Brady Bunch because I like how they didn't sing every episode like The Partridge Family did. If I want to listen to music I'll pop in a CD . Who quotes The Partridge Family? I appreciate The PF's but they are a little bit too low key for my taste. opus 08-29-2016, 12:57 AM Let's go with the Partridges. For the music. I rest my case! ;) To be fair the Partridges had a skunk and braces that got radio reception and a groovy school bus. But the Brady's had prize winning frogs, the Tiki, Don Ho and his partner, an exploding volcano, lizards, a dogless doghouse, a back yard you could put a play on, Jan's curlers, frequent Benedict Arnold references, magic tricks, itching powder, sleeping bags, pork chops and apple shauce and Antony and Cleopatra costumes.:D Anna Karenina 08-31-2016, 12:29 AM I have never seen that show, I will have to check it out. :) Bonniegirl 08-31-2016, 01:47 AM Nanny and the Professor has been showing on Get TV (against the Brady Bunch), and I think that it's pretty clearly better than the Bradys. The kids on the show learn lessons, but it usually happens by a more subtle sequence of events. It's a quiet show, which was something of a trend in those days, but a lot of the episodes are interesting. It doesn't match the Partridges for broader comedy, but it passes from amusing to funny sometimes. Also, it has the best dog (Waldo) in any of the three shows.. I used to watch Nanny and the Professor as a little girl! I vaguely remember it though ,it was on such a short time and it hasn't been shown in reruns! I do remember the little blonde girl named Prudence and the Father was a hotty! ;) Actor Richard Long! ;) https://travsd.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/nanny_and_the_professor_cast_1970_no_1.jpg https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/fa/ae/41/faae4185006236f393f2b554468c8675.jpg icecream 08-31-2016, 01:46 PM The Partridge Family Rookielove 09-05-2016, 09:54 PM The Brady Bunch.
