Wow, that's a lot of cases! Was 1991 a crazy year or what?! Some of these crimes happened within a few days of each other. For instance, between June 28th and June 30th, four people were murdered!

not to mention Selena Edon disappearing on the same day that Jamie Santos was murdered.

When I put this together, I was stunned at how close a lot of these cases where to each other. For instance, in a week's time, Dorothy Donovan, Jacqueline McAllister, Brian Major, Su-Ya Kim and Danny Williams were all murdered. What's also scary is only one of those has been solved while the others haven't.

Interesting you brought this up. I always thought 1991 seemed like particularly grisly year for UM.

Some very memorable and terrifying cases from that year.

Random thoughts:

1. The Sacremento Thrill killer - Before Leonard was caught, the police were correct in their suspicions that he was a local resident (he lived just two blocks from the convenient store) and that he was possibly a young guy borrowing the gun from "daddy's night stand." Turns out he was just 19, I believe.

2. The New Orleans serial killer - The endless unsettling music, the surviving victim's voice that was permanently damaged from being strangled and the hand sticking out from the garbage site to start the segment.

3. Blind River Rest Stop - That entire ordeal seemed like something straight out of a horror movie. And I suspect the UM reenactment crew made up the part about Brian Major not being able to get his car started as the killer aimed the rifle at his windshield. But if their goal was to scare 10 year old kids like me into not being able to sleep for a week, mission accomplished.

4. Cheryl Holland - Not to downplay the seriousness of the crime but how did this segment never turn into a Lifetime movie feature? The betrayal by a beloved family member, murder, arson, going on the run, family members taking sides as to who masterminded the entire thing. Throw in a courtroom conclusion and that sounds like a Lifetime feature of the week.

I first saw that segment as an adult and it traumatized me like you would not believe! That poor couple, taking a little vacation, minding their own business and BAM! A psychopath kills the wife and the husband is heartbroken for the rest of his life. A person's worst nightmare.

Thanks for putting this list together!

How many 1991 cases would've had a different outcome or not happened at all if Cell phones were around back then?

I think we've all said that Angela Hammond would not have been abducted had she owned a cell phone. :(

I agree with the comment re: Cheryl Holland. Why DIDNT Lifetime adapt that into a movie? Everything was there...

Everything. Plus the depressing concept that Bill and Mattie loved Cheryl so much, it sounds like they would have given her the money if she asked. Nobody ever had to die.

No kidding! I remember the picture of Bill and Mattie. They looked like very sweet, generous people. I'm sure they would have absolutely cracked the safe open had she just told them she needed the money.

That was the segment where they poured the gasoline on the floor and started the floor on fire? I'm pretty sure UM ended up using that clip in its opening montage for several years after that...
