I'm a newspaper guy. I know most articles can also be read online these days. I still like the feeling of holding a newspaper while drinking a cup of coffee or doing my business in the morning.

Our monthly newspaper bill has gone up TWICE in the last 6-8 months. It went from $32.35 a month last year to $36.88 earlier this year to $46.10 now. It's pretty outrageous what they are asking for a newspaper which gets thinner and thinner every year. Don't even get me started with the numerous missed or delayed deliveries.

Unfortunately, no.
I say unfortunately because I do miss having something concrete in front of me, but the paper content is not what it used to be.
When I did read the paper regularly, there was more in the paper to read.

Not to leave out the ever-the-more-outrageous cover prices to even get a single copy-- The Greenville News here is $1.50 weekdays and $2.50 on Sundays, and in both instances, you don't get anywhere near what you pay for. This is why I am very much the fan of what papers used to be like, where you got very much what you paid for, whether on weekdays or Sundays. This Baltimore Sun from Sunday, May 17, 1987 is a shining example of that; it only cost $1.25 then on Sundays, and this particular one was from the Sun's 150th anniversary in Baltimore. It was jam-packed with everything you could ask for in a paper-- news, sports, weather, classifieds, features, two color comics sections, a local mag, the national Parade mag, a TV guide, the works. It took me a good long while to take it all in (I had gotten it as a Christmas and birthday present last year from EBay through my nephew for $25).

Compare that to today with the Greenville News, where, as was stated, you pay near to $2 on weekdays and $3 on Sundays, and you can blow through it in about 10 minutes either way.

I haven't subscribed to a newspaper in over a decade. I used to love reading USA TODAY but you can get your news pretty much from the internet now. Once in a while I'll go to our library and read some of the newspapers but that's about it.

Subscribe, no (never did). Buy one a few times a week? Yes.

I don't subscribe to the newspaper anymore. First off, there's nothing in it but crap anyway. Second, my sports section might as well be called "Associated Press" because the majority of the articles are from the AP. Only the local stuff, which doesn't interest me, has writers. And yes, you can read the paper in about 10 mins. on Sunday which is the only day I get it because they have the ads and inserts for the week.

I do get the USA Today, not via subscription during the NFL season. It was something my late grandfather turned me onto. Now, buying the USA Today started with me about 20 plus years ago. But even the USA Today, now, like Parade, is pretty thin. Its a shame.

One thing I miss of the USA Today of old is that subtitle on the left of each section where it said "A quick read on _________," like with Sportsline, where it said, "A quick read on the top sports news of the day." Another is that rectangular box at the top middle of each section called "Today's Tip-Off"-- factoids about something or other related to the main thrust of each section.

I subscribe to the Chicago Tribune Sundays only because of the Sports section and the coupons for friends.

My husband Lou is a newspaper guy too, me, not so much. We subscribed our entire marriage, until four years ago when our bill jumped $100. We cancelled and just this month subscribed to Sundays only.

I've never seen Lou so adamant about something. I've wanted to get him a full subscription for his birthday or Christmas or the start of the Red Sox, but he's not having it. I posted about it four years ago.

I get a free local weekly one, supported totally by ads. But I do not subscribe to others. As others have said, they are getting too expensive and the news content is weak, to say the least. It's sad; I miss a good daily paper.

I don't have a subscription because it wouldn't always get here before I leave in the morning but I read at least one newspaper every day.

That sounds like a lot of money to have the newspaper. It's a shame that people who enjoy the newspaper have to spend so much.

Yeah, in a way I wouldn't mind getting just the Sunday paper. I do like the store flyers and the comics! Weakday newspapers IMO are just a waste!

Tell me about it-- with the Greenville News here having only 20-30 pages most weekdays and still having that cover price of $1.50, I think you're justified in the way you feel, and I feel quite that way myself.

I still get the newspaper, it's $20 a month. I really like the Wed. & Sun. editions because they have the most sales papers & coupons. I take the sales papers with me to shop so that the store will price-match the items I want. They want to see the actual ad, not just take your word for it.
I tried reading the paper online but the print is too small & when I try to enlarge it, it's blurry. I'd just rather have the actual newspaper.

Yeah there's something about reading and having a paper in hand instead of reading it on the computer.

Yeah ,I see what you are saying!;) But for me, and it's strange because usually I love old traditional things and nostalgia! But for whatever reason, newspaper reading just doesn't rock my boat!

I live abroad but periodically come home and basically our local newspaper (which serves a region of around a million people is basically a pamphlet now. Including the Sunday paper. My late father who died in 2023 really misses the Sunday classifieds, they just don’t exist anymore since people are buying and looking online. But he was in his eighties and while he had a computer and did learn to putter on it a bit, the newspaper was his main source.
