Was there ever mention on the show of whether he owned a car?

I understand somewhat that it's easier and less costly in Manhattan to use taxis/limos/car service. But, George having multiple stores spread throughout the five boroughs, he would need to have a car on more than a few occasions to get places quickly. I can imagine him having either a Cadillac or a Lincoln, then trading up something German or English toward the end of the series.

I don't think he did have a car! There was a van /or vans for the dry cleaning stores !

The Jefferson's never had a car. George had a few vans for his cleaning stores, but no car. I'm pretty sure the Willis' never had a car either.

They didn't have a car since their Harlem days...if you remember the episode in season 6 when they went back in time...weezy got upset b/c George sold their car to get a down payment for the first store

Yep, I recall. That conflicts with the story on an "All in the Family" episode in which they get a large insurance settlement and plan to use it to open their first store.
