Check it out...of all the girls in the show, notice Mrs. Garrett is flanked only by the "lost girls"!

The only three girls to stay with the show are all around Mr. Bradley, who became "lost" himself.

It's like some mathematical/scientific formula of which the cast was unaware: if you pose by Mrs. Garrett you will be let go, and if you pose with Mr. Bradley you will stay, lol...I guess the headmaster was the one to suck up to after all! ;)

Ha! Good observation, '80s!

...My question is: where's Miss Mahoney?

Actually, where is she in any of the publicity photos?

She was only in four episodes and they were all in 1979. My guess is that she was not in any of the publicity photos because they were taken after she was no longer a cast member.

There are only 5 pictures of her that I can find.
Four are screen shots and one is a more recent picture what she looks like now.
I was not able to find any actual publicity
photos from 1979.

If you'll notice, this photo is publicity from the 1980 "re-vamp" which expunged Miss Mahoney, lol (Blair looks exactly like she does in "Emily Dickinson").

I agree. So, did they really not take any publicity photos before taping four episodes? Wouldn't it be weird to expect a ratings success for a TV show when no one even bothered to take publicity photos?

It seems as though, as '80s wrote above, that some of the publicity photos were taken during the taping of "Emily Dickinson", which aired in March 1980. But the show debuted in August 1979, seven months earlier. Did they really launch a show with no promotional photos?

Ya know Retro, I never thought about it before, but it really is odd---as far as I can see, there were NO publicity photos with Miss Mahoney---Mrs. Garrett's only fellow adult female confidant---ever taken. How odd! I hope this is untrue and they just have yet to be uncovered, lol. Maybe NBC was just concentrating on the show itself and getting it on the air since they were so desperate for ratings successes? But then that would just make you think they'd really go all out for publicity, hmmmm...strange...

Yeah, I don't understand it.

The network should have been sending out publicity photos to NBC's network of 200+ local affiliates for on-air promos, and to media (newspapers, TV guides, critics, etc). But I see no sign of publicity photos until Jenny O'Hara had left the show, when the season was already 1/4th over.

So why the wringing of hands about the show being in 76th place at the end of the season? If you launch a show with no way of generating buzz, and schedule it at the same time as two hit shows on competing networks, how can you be surprised when the show fails to attract a lot of viewers?

And really it was just over 1/3 over---!

Apparently this was not a thought. LOL

Great finds, SFG!

These photos are better than "no publicity", but it looks as though they were photos taken during the taping, rather than an actual photo shoot. As far as I can tell, no one bothered to do that until partway through the first season.
