View Full Version : So Jack owned his own business, Janet worked full-time and Terri worked full-time and
TVFactFan 05-01-2016, 11:48 PM they couldn't buy a NEW COUCH on their own? Mr. Furley came to tell Janet he just bought them a new used couch when they could have bought a new soda between the 3 of them
This episode seemed more suited for season 5 when Jack was in between jobs and Jack and Janet was trying to make it on their own since Chrissy left.
Not with 3 people working full time which is a lot of money left over
I don't know why they had to replace the couch to begin with, but it still is one of my favorite episodes. It's mostly awesome because of the vicious dog and Anne Ramsey.

I agree especially since it was the last season. At that point what did it matter

Now that you mention it why couldn't Jack now that he had a restaurant ever buy a used car from Larry?
Also Larry's reaction upon seeing Jack with the money as if he hit the jackpot, was $1,000 a lot for 1983?

Not with 3 people working full time which is a lot of money left overKeep in mind the trio lived in a furnished apartment, so to get new furniture probably required building management approval.
Wawwie 05-02-2016, 04:37 PM Mr. Furley was obligated to buy them a new couch since it was a furnished apartment.
JackJanetChrissy 05-02-2016, 05:44 PM Yeah, it was a furnished apartment. Landlord's responsibility.
And isn't $1000 a lot of money even today? I could do a lot with $1000. But I looked it up and $1000 in 1980 would be equal to $3000 today.
JackJanetChrissy 05-02-2016, 05:45 PM I also thought of something else....if the three of them bought a couch together, who would've taken it when they moved out? Can't split a couch three ways....

I would think they would just leave it lol
Dianne3 05-04-2016, 05:20 PM A few episodes later Jack dresses up as Grandma Moses to win a cooking contest, so the trio could use the $$ for a color TV (was it?).
Didn't season 8 start with Janet & Terri entering some contest because they thought Jack needed money?
Also by season 8, it was way too late to be introducing Jack's father.

Yes, you're right. Janet and Terri thought Jack needed money to pay Mr. Angelino the rent on his restaurant, so they staged a radio contest so he could win $500. Jack ended up buying a tacky leather coat. I guess his judgment when it came to money matters wasn't so great.
And I agree with you about his father. I don't care for that episode very much.

yeah the episode with his dad was kind of goofy
BigManMike 05-04-2016, 09:44 PM I actually liked the episode with his dad because of the Old Sow Song although the words didn't make much sense. Whoever heard of a man named Susanna?

I remember that episode. I thought it was hysterical when Jack attempted to slip the envelope into Janet's purse when ended up slipping it into the purse of a pretty girl named Lola!
