IMO there is always something new to be found in these stores. And the overall atmosphere of the thrift store makes me enjoy it even more.

And it can also be quite profitable.

I do. The animal shelter I support has a resale shop and I always find things there. One time I found a bunch of New Wave albums, some still wrapped in plastic. I've found brand new clothes and stuffed pandas (my collection along with Barbies).

The charity thrift stores near me (Goodwill, Salvation Army...) are filthy and disorganized, so I don't go to them as much. For charity stores I go to Housing Works which is a little more upper-class (very hipster).

I also go to some mom-and-pop thrift stores (non-charity) where I have found some neat things (VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, LaserDisc, books, action figures, knives...)

My aunt is obsessed with Goodwill and that's where she gets most of my music cds and TV show DVD sets and she gets movies for real cheap there too. And in fact my aunt loves to shop Goodwill so much that the employees are really friendly and give her special discounts on items she buys. I like thrift stores a lot myself and where I used to find great items and good deals was a thrift store named Savers and it is a good store if you want to find wonderful deals on books and old records and movies too. But where I go to get good deals is my recycling center and they have a huge thrift shop with all sorts of cool things from video games to music and books

I've never really shopped at any but I do donate to them a lot. I think it's better than just throwing things away. After all one man's trash is another man's treasure.

I got a used VCR for $25 dollars, didn't have its remote control but still worked.

$25.00 for a VCR with no remote at a thrift store is way over-priced. You can get one here for $10.00 or less depending on the store. I recently bought this Sony Hi-Fi VHS with remote for $5.00 at the Salvation Army.

Not a huge fan of thrift stores. There is a Unique thrift store in the same strip mall as my gym and the people who shop there are kind of sketchy looking.

There's also a dirty Goodwill store not to far from me. I donate there frequently because they will accept anything and it's an easy way for me to de-clutter. I walked into the store area once and the smell from the shoe rack nearly knocked me over.

There's a wonderful Salvation Army further away that is neat and clean with decent merchandise. My MIL and I purchased a coffee table for her when she moved in with us and it is a beautiful piece and worth the $50.

I do love shopping at the second-hand store. I live across the street from Unique Thrift Store...It's the best second hand store in Cleveland.

I'll also go to Savers once in awhile.

I donate to Goodwill a lot! But as for shopping at Thrift shops, the ones near me tend to be like JamesG and Shotzette describe! I have bought some cute knick Knacks for the house and books and stuff before though, I'm not fancy, I'm a Target, dollar store gal, but Thrift stores aren't really my bag to shop at a lot! I do love Yard sales and garage sales though as far as second hand stuff goes!

I can't bring myself to shop at those places. I've heard too many horror stories of people bringing bugs home from clothes and furniture. The items may look fine, but critters can be lurking anywhere. Spiders, bedbugs and cockroaches can turn your life upside down.

A few years back, I went to a couple of Consignment shops where rich women bring their gently worn clothes for $ale. I was looking for a beautiful gown to wear to my stepson's wedding, and did I ever find one. I paid close to $200 for it, but it was probably worth $1,000. It looked brand new. I actually bought a dress there for my stepdaughter's wedding too.

I took a chance buying clothes at a Consignment shop because rich people have bugs too, lol.

I've been buying all my clothes from thrift stores for years and never had a problem. I inspect & wash everything thoroughly before wearing. One store here washes all their clothes before they're put on the racks. I will sometimes shop at Kmart or Walmart for clothes but not often. I also buy jackets, jerseys and concert T-shirts from these stores to sell on eBay and I'm always extra careful to make sure everything is in excellent condition before I ship it. Truthfully, I'm addicted to thrift stores and I'm usually there 2-3 times a week. It's amazing what people will get rid of and the prices the stuff is sold for is often laughable. This was one of the best deals I ever got, someone donated 22 Lego Harry Potter sets. Instead of keeping them in their original boxes, they dumped it all into one big box with no instructions. Nearly 15 pounds of bricks, mini-figures and other miscellaneous parts. I got very lucky the day I bought them because they set them on a sofa almost the very second I walked in the door. I immediately asked how much? and was told $3.99. I sold it all for over $700.00 a couple of weeks later.

I used to, but the prices ar the ones in NYC aren't much lower than buying something new on sale. So , basically now, no.

^That's definitely a good way to do it. I hardly ever find good DVDs at my Goodwill or thrift store... but, you know, I buy most of mine on Amazon or eBay or Walmart or FYE.

I used to have a Salvation Army thrift store near me but it closed some years ago and I used to find great deals on VHS movies and other neat stuff but now there is now only three Salvation Army stores near me but I have a giant Salvation Army store miles away that's near a Target but we stopped going to Salvation Army stores when we discovered our recycling center's thrift shop. I liked Savers because I would find great deals and it had an awesome selection of movies and cds and records as well and Savers and it's sister thrift shop Value Village is a good place to shop

IMO there is always something new to be found in these stores.Indeed..... Yesterday I got a phone there :) (An older on where you can press a key and it stays on)

I like to call this stupid party line and they have a message board where you can record messages,etc..... (Mostly losers call this line)

I love putting messages up on it with LONG beeping sounds :D (20 seconds or more)

But usually I get VHS,8 tracks,cassettes,etc...........

Those party lines are funny. Every so often I'll pretend to be a man looking for another man as part of the couple (I play the woman too) or a southern woman who weighs about 400 pounds or just post random things. Often I get kicked off them.
