IllinoisTVFan 05-01-2016, 11:50 PM I really hated Seinfeld and Friends. I get attacked anytime I mentioned this on the internet. One person told me (with poor grammar no less)that I was stupid because I hated both.

Adamantium 05-03-2016, 09:47 AM WKRP in Cincinnati (1978-82) - This is often considered one of the best sitcoms of the ‘70s. A few people voted for it as their favorite workplace sitcom in a poll on this website. I finally broke down and bought the complete series on DVD. I’m watching the episodes and while it’s a pleasant enough show to watch, there’s very little laughing coming from me. I just don’t find this show all that funny. I still rank it as one of the worst sitcoms of the ‘70s. Of course there are far worse shows than this and I’m not upset about owning it on DVD but it only confirmed my feelings all along.
Sanford and Son (1972-1977) - This is one of sitcoms all-time classics and yet I don’t find it that funny. The characters are more annoying than funny and Fred Sanford falls back on the same few lines each episode. You know all of his catchphrases without me having to say them for you. They’re in almost every episode (I imagine, as I haven’t literally watched every single episode).
Two and a Half Men (2003-2015) - Many say this show became unfunny when Charlie Sheen left and was replaced by Ashton Kutcher. I say it was never funny. I’ve watched various episodes through out the years because even though I don’t like a show, it doesn’t mean I won’t watch it from time to time just to make sure I still don’t like it, ha-ha. I get it. It was a high rated show. That’s why it lasted twelve seasons - that’s one more season than Cheers had. One more season than The Jeffersons had. Seven seasons more than The Odd Couple had. But I don't see why people think it's so funny. I recently sat down and watched the pilot episode for the first time because a friend told me to do so because it had a really funny pilot. As with most episodes I’ve seen, I didn’t laugh at all. Alan is annoying. Jake’s alright, the only times I’ve ever laughed at this show were at Jake. Charlie is, well Charlie. I don’t have a problem with him necessarily, I just don’t think he’s all that funny. To think this show lasted, what seven or eight seasons as the number one comedy has be baffled.
George Lopez (2002-2007) - I’ve given this show a few chances and I never laughed once. Okay, it lasted six seasons, that’s crazy enough but then to have it come on Nick at Nite and be very successful bugs me because I don’t see what’s funny about it and yet (obviously) many people do. Someone please tell me. What’s funny about this show?
The Nanny (1993-1999) - In the past I’ve bashed this show because besides not finding it funny and the characters annoying, I could never stand Fran’s voice. I have decided to give the show another chance and may even purchase it on DVD (when I get some money but I’m in no rush). But until I do so, it must remain on this list of mine.
The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971) - This is another classic sitcom that’s beloved by many… but not me. The simple answer is I just never found it that funny. Add to that it lasted nine seasons. Maybe if it was another one of those two season sixties sitcoms such as The Munsters, The Addams Family,
The Monkees or F Troop I’d feel differently. But sometimes a show’s length can hurt it in my eyes. That’s the main reason I have trouble getting into Frasier. I don’t know if I can watch all 11 seasons in a row like I did with Cheers recently.
Then there’s another category. Shows that are popular that I haven’t seen but have zero interest in watching them. That mostly goes to dramas. I’m not a big fan of the genre. I like a few but generally when I watch TV, I do it to laugh. So I’m definitely a sitcom man. So the shows that fall under this category are: Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead, The Sopranos, CSI, NCIS, etc.

I agree with you on "George Lopez", "Two and a Half Men" and "The Nanny" but I do love "WKRP in Cincinnati", "Sanford and Son" and "The Beverly Hillbillies (well maybe not love Sanford and Son). I'll post a list later.

I never used to like "Seinfeld" or "Friends" but I think I may change my mind I just need to sample them and see what I think of them. "Seinfeld" will probably be easiest to get into.
Adamantium 05-03-2016, 03:07 PM Malcolm in the Middle (seriously, how on Earth is this so popular?
Ooh, yeah. This show for me as well. I thought the dad was funny but none of the other characters were and the mom got on my nerves.
As for Seinfeld and Friends, I went through a phase where I didn't like either show. Mostly because of how popular they were (and continue to be) that I felt they were both soooo overrated, I didn't want to give them a fair chance. But I have since had complete series viewings of both shows and I like them now. Seinfeld I feel is the cooler show but Friends is the one I tend to watch more often. It's just a nice, cozy show to have on. Still overrated, but good.
The Office (I tried watching a couple of episodes but just didn't like it at all)
Family Matters (My husband & son watched it but Steve Urkel just got on my last nerve)
Patty Duke 05-03-2016, 09:03 PM It's hard to name just a few, I basically hate pretty much all Reality and the current sitcoms and most of the other shows on TV these days.
