Sorry if someone already posted this, but I just did a search of Joyce McLain after re-watching the segment today, and it appears a guy was arrested and charged with murder last month! I had no idea!!!

Phillip Scott Fournier is the named suspect. I can't really find much info other than that he has apparently told people over the years about his involvement. Hopefully the cops have DNA or something, but seeing as they charged him 36 years after the crime, I'm sure they have something to convict.

Wow!

Great news!

Out of curiosity, were you watching this segment online somewhere or part of your personal collection?

I was watching the segment on disc 1 of the 19 disc collection ;)

Apparently the guy arrested was on the radar since day one. Here is another article about his possible involvement from 2009:

Interesting part about him stealing an oil truck and crashing it on the night of Joyce's murder. I wonder why UM left that tidbit out of the broadcast.

Because you don't get everything, and not even close to everything, in a 12 minute segment. I've emphasized that many times previously. There is so much arguing here and so many absolute pronouncements about specific details when we are dealing with obscure cases that weren't even covered fully during the only examination at our disposal. Even the one hour true crime programs leave out significant aspects. That's glaring if you follow up and look into them further online.

We are handed a presentation that is based on the slant and competence of the producer(s), and based on whoever was asked to interview or agreed to interview. The vital details can find the cutting room floor or were never examined. In a television version you are also more likely to receive the titillating details than something more technical or lengthy to describe.

Anyway, this is terrific news.
