Tv is just getting with the times :) less sugar sweet preachy family sitcoms and more real life situations.

My own personal opinion is that TV/movies have been desensitizing people and now people accept and see nothing wrong with all the sex, nudity and violence.
We all have choices, we can either watch it or not. I choose to not watch it.

TV to me was dirtier in the mid to late 1990s. Things are not so dirty these days. For example, I don't see any TV shows on networks these days emphsizing sex as a topic more than Spin City did in the late 90s. If anything, things seem classier today.

Sitcoms nowadays I think are very dirty, but the ones I watch aren't! I don't watch modern sitcoms, anything newer than the late 1990s I don't watch.

Most sitcoms talk about sex...look at Two and a Half Men...that show was basically nothing but sex!

I think networks are feeling the pressure to compete with the hundreds of cable channels and keep viewers watching so they have lowered their standards not in only in terms of sex but also violence and in every other conceivable way as well.

TV has always had content that was considered risque.

In the 50s, couples couldn't sleep in the same bed or say the word "pregnant". In the 70s, a toilet flushing was taboo, let alone the stuff Archie Bunker, Fred Sanford or George Jefferson said. Folks lost their minds over the idea of Jack Tripper living with two women, along with the jokes on Soap.

TV didn't just become "too dirty" in the last 5-10 years. Sitcoms have pushed the envelope for years; the sex jokes and innuendos have always been there. They might not be as subtle anymore, but they've always been there. Times change.

I agree. I do think when people actually watch old television they'll find there's less to complain about with modern TV. Buttons were always getting pushed, the flames of controversy were always getting fanned. It all comes down to don't watch what you don't like and move on.

It's hard to say don't watch when it's everywhere. And I'm not a prude. I loved MWC and I loved Spin City (LOL). The problem is most of these characters just aren't very likeable. There should be some balance on television with family sitcoms and not just on TDC and Nickelodeon because those aren't family sitcoms (they are aimed for kids). The only family sitcom I ever saw on those channels was Good Luck Charlie.

I don't think TV has gotten dirtier, I know it's gotten dirtier! It's basically a sewer nowadays, so I don't watch much TV dramas or sitcoms anymore. And even if it isn't smutty the writing on so many shows is totally dumbed down, there's not much that's witty or clever anymore. Which is why I watch mostly educational and nature shows on networks like the Discovery Channel, TLC, or Animal Planet. I love shows like How It's Made or Mysteries At The Museum, OK that one's on The Travel Channel but it's like a science and history lesson rolled into one. I've learned so many things I didn't know before even about the U.S., it's fascinating.

As I do love cartoons, there has been things like violence, booze, smoking, stereotypes, and even nudity (Not just human...but animals that wear clothes such as Donald Duck and Porky Pig) was seen in cartoons between the 50's and now!

And yes...there's even wine drank on a few modern children's cartoons!

I don't watch primetime dramas/sitcoms, primarily because most of them have sex scenes (2005 was when the ads started getting dirty), secondarily because of the violence and language. There were some surprisingly clean shows from the '00s/'10s like Monk and umm... How are The Middle and Last Man Standing? They seemed pretty clean last time I checked.

I prefer the sitcoms from the '50s and '60s (like Leave It to Beaver and Get Smart) with the occasional '80s sitcom (Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Benson).

I think the '70s was when it first got bad, I'm not a fan of Norman Lear, Garry Marshall or Aaron Spelling. I've noticed that a lot of the movies from the '70s were rated R and the few G-rated ones were Disney movies. Is it just me or were the '80s more family-friendly than the '70s?

The newer shows I prefer are kids' shows from PBS and Disney Junior.

I don't watch modern TV. It really has nothing to do with sex. I liked Married With Children and Melrose Place. It's just today's TV doesn't interest me. I'd rather watch Antenna TV.

The 70's Sesame Street was a little more for older children like ages 3-8. It was also the same way during the 80's, it didn't change until it became Elmo's World Featuring The Cast Of Sesame Street! There were a few segments that wouldn't be shown on today's Sesame Street but was okay during the Jim Henson era of Sesame Street.

That show too mentioned cigars and wine...now it wouldn't dare!
