Mallory's reference to Boy George.

Boy George is a singer. All I've heard of his songs is "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" which I saw someone who sang like Boy George sing on "Your Big Break". I didn't know who Boy George was either before I saw the show. But, I thought his music is good.

Yeah boy George also sang this really annoying song, annoying to me atleast called Carmacamelleon. He was just this really goofy singer from the 1980's. They used to play his videos like crazy on VHI, and MTV. I don't remember him too well, but I believe he had red dyed hair. I think he was more of a gimmick then an actual singer.

I believe not knowing who Boy George is a good thing. :lol:
With all the good things that came out of the '80s are also the bad. He is an example of one of the bad things.

Boy George was the lead singer of The Culture Club. For those of you who don't know, the 80's became a platform for dozens of European groups who became one-hit wonders. The Culture Club is a great example of a British group that became more than just a one-hit wonder. They had a handful of hits from 1982-1985. Including:

Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?
Karmachameleon
Time (Clock of the Heart)
Church of the Poison Mind
I'll Tumble 4 Ya
Miss Me Blind


By far, music from the 70's and 80's is the best but personally, I am not too fond of Culture Club's music. However, I certainly wouldn't say The Culture Club was a bad thing. They certainly had a following, with fans dressing in George's unique look, much like Madonna's fans dressed up in her grunge look.

Boechsner: It's a miracle was another hit as well as one of their better videos.

My favorite Culture Club song was Time (Clock Of The Heart). It was also their breakthrough song/video on MTV. Next time the video shows up on a VH1 flashback watch the ending of the video carefully and you'll see that the band is sort of introduced in a unique little way.

To the naysayers: by the way if the band and Boy George were so bad than how come the best 80's club in NYC is called Culture Club. If you are an 80's music fan then there is no better best place to party than at Culture Club in NYC (you can ask any top club promoter in NYC if you don't believe me and they will agree with me 100%). Some credit is definitely due to this band and their lead singer. I know Boy George was a druggy (this is no longer the case, btw) but I am just thinking about how the music influenced the 80's not how the band members behaved in their personal lives or how they dressed not that I agree with those things, though.

the behind the music on boy george is really entertaining. if you ever get a chance to watch it it's worth it. keep your eyes open for the part when he is getting interviewed and he is coked out w/ powder or coke(???) all over his face.

That Behind The Music was the best one in my opinion and I thought it was very entertaining as well as interesting. It showed that the band wasn't as superficial as some people viewed them to be in the past. VH1 always does a good job with that show. The band reunited after that Behind The Music aired and are still together. I think they even performed at Radio City Music Hall on New Year's Eve once or twice since then.
