"The Shannara Chronicles" Renewed for Season 2 at MTV
by Nellie Andreeva
April 20, 2016

MTV has ordered a second season of "The Shannara Chronicles", its adaptation of the international best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks.

"The Shannara Chronicles" — from "Smallville" & "Into the Badlands" creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and director Jon Favreau — had a modestly-rated premiere run on linear TV but did well in young demos, delayed and multi-platform viewing as well as on social media.

The series averaged a 0.98 L+3 rating in MTV’s core P12-34 demo, ranking as MTV’s top-rated new series this year. "Shannara" also saw the highest average L+7 lift (+106%) for a freshman series in MTV history.

A strong digital performer, the series pulled in 16.6 million streams across all MTV’s digital properties and ranks as the highest grossing digital download for a single season on MTV ever.

“This dream team delivered a beautiful, ground breaking show with compelling stories and character journeys which brought in new viewers,” said Mina Lefevre, EVP and Head of Scripted Development at MTV.

"The Shannara Chronicles follows a trio of heroes who’ve embarked on a quest to stop a demon army bent on destroying humanity’s world. It stars Poppy Drayton as Amberle, an Elvin Princess; Invana Baquero as Eretria, a Human Rover; and Austin Butler as Wil, a Half-Elf, Half-Human.

"The Shannara Chronicles" Moves from MTV to Spike for Season 2
by Liam Mathews
May 11, 2017

"The Shannara Chronicles" will shuffle from MTV to Spike for Season 2 this fall, Variety reports.

The move comes as parent company Viacom shakes things up among its properties. MTV is moving away from scripted series in favor of its reality bread-and-butter, while Spike is adding more scripted series in advance of its relaunch as the more prestigious Paramount Network next year.

The fantasy series' 10-episode second season, which was announced over a year ago, will premiere this fall.

"The Shannara Chronicles" Cancelled, Won't Make Move to Paramount fka Spike TV
by Matt Webb Mitovich
January 16, 2018

"The Shannara Chronicles" appear to be over. On the heels of a low-rated sophomore season that barely drew a quarter of a million live viewers (and just 500K with DVR playback), the network formerly known as Spike TV has passed on any possible Season 3.

“Maybe [production company] Sonar Entertainment is going to take it somewhere else,” Paramount Network boss Kevin Kay told TVGuide.com at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “For us, we passed on the future of that.”

Sources confirm for TVLine that the series is being shopped to other outlets.
