View Full Version : Mrs. G and the Girls Swimfan85 04-14-2002, 09:48 PM which one of the girls do you think that Mrs. Garret was closest too? Jo/Blair_fan 04-14-2002, 10:22 PM i think she was close to all of them the same amout like a mother would be with her children. Czas na Zywiec 04-14-2002, 10:37 PM Originally posted by Jo/Blair_fan i think she was close to all of them the same amout like a mother would be with her children. I agree. She was close to them as much and each in different ways. LynnFOL 04-15-2002, 09:31 AM I Agree too, she was close to all the girls. With how much I saw of the show she treated them all equally, but in different ways due to their different personalities. FolFanatic151 04-15-2002, 04:52 PM That's a toughie. I suppose she was equally as close to all of them... Mrs. G. really helped Jo when she first came to Eastland. Blair and Mrs. G. were together for awhile, and Mrs. G. was almost more of a mother to Blair than Monica was. Mrs. G. helped Nat a lot when her father died. When Tootie was going to have to leave Eastland, Mrs. G. helped to get her to stay. Yep, I guess she's close to all of them. :) Kay Scarpetta 04-15-2002, 10:01 PM *cough* Blair. MrsGarrettRocksMySocks 04-15-2002, 10:11 PM Originally posted by Lisa Whelchel Forever *cough* Blair. of course! lol....no..I dunno......i think she was close to all of them, but Karli may have a point....i mean....A LOT of serious episodes with CLASSIC Mrs. G adviced were focused around Blair. like, well, most of the first season ones were weren't they. Well, Emily Dickinson, The Facts of Love, I dunno...anyway....there were others...Karli may have a valid point...even if she did spell my name wrong once....lol...I'm just kidding Karli! Kay Scarpetta 04-15-2002, 10:38 PM  Lizzie. Is <~~~ that right? And yes I do have a point. Especially "A Friend Indeed". Hey I was just watching that tonight lol... Quote from "A Friend Indeed"... Mrs G: What are you making, a bomb? *laughs* Natalie: *throws hands up* Yes, YES!!!!!! But Mrs. G helped jo alot also! for example New Girl, teenage marrage, Sweet Sorrow, Seems like old times, Teachers pet, Doubble Standered, Takeing a chance on love, and The Christmas Show and many more i can not think of. What a coincidence! ;) jayman75 04-16-2002, 11:52 AM I think Natalie was the one... Jo was full of confidence, but needed a boost from time to time. Blair was over-confident, and needed to be brought down every so often. Tootie was the baby bear -- she was "juuuuust right." Natalie, however, always seemed to have a little inadequacy feeling. I also think that Mindy has credited Charlotte for her acting career and such (since she did discover her). So, I would say Natalie Sage Leticia Green. Kay Scarpetta 04-16-2002, 02:16 PM Originally posted by FolFanatic151 I was just watching that too!!! Naw, for real?!? Of course you were. I was sitting 3 feet away from you watching it! LOL. Mrs. G. helped all the girls but it seemed to me that Blair and Mrs. G. were like conected at the hip. -ChickenLegz Kay Scarpetta 04-16-2002, 05:06 PM Originally posted by hockeybabe528 teach karli how to mini golf;) Hey. Gemini_89 04-01-2016, 03:31 PM She was the closest to Tootie. They would even have private chats and conversations that the rest of the girls don't know about. Mrs Garrett is also the youngest in her family and that's something that they have in common amongst other things.... valentina warner 01-31-2020, 09:58 PM Once again i would say MRS G was closest to BLAIR: it's like she could relate to her and saw that there was more to her than meet the eyes (she even says in her goodbye episode, that on the outside BLAIR seemed 'shallow'? but that on the inside she had a heart of gold and loves to let it shine). On the other hand, BLAIR always seemed to hang on every word MRS G said, and the times she acted like a spoiled brat you could see how repentant she was at the end of an episode. In a way i'm sure she saw MRS G more of a mother figure than MONICA WARNER ever was, and i'm sure that is the reason the two of them had a special bond. But Mrs. Garrett was a senior citizen. I think they thought of her as a surrogate grandmother. Lorimar Television 02-01-2020, 05:01 AM But Mrs. Garrett was a senior citizen. I wouldn't call her a sr citizen since she was under 65 on the show. 80s Dude 02-01-2020, 09:16 AM Once again i would say MRS G was closest to BLAIR: it's like she could relate to her and saw that there was more to her than meet the eyes (she even says in her goodbye episode, that on the outside BLAIR seemed 'shallow'? but that on the inside she had a heart of gold and loves to let it shine). Not uncommon for boarding school students to see others who are not their parents as parental figures since they really don't see their parents as often as they see school administrators, teachers, etc. '80sSitcoms 02-01-2020, 01:38 PM I wouldn't call her a sr citizen since she was under 65 on the show. But she was over 55, when "senior citizenship" starts. She was old enough to be their grandmother. '80sSitcoms 02-01-2020, 01:38 PM Not uncommon for boarding school students to see others who are not their parents as parental figures since they really don't see their parents as often as they see school administrators, teachers, etc. Exactly. It's not uncaring parents, it's just how boarding school life is. valentina warner 02-01-2020, 03:01 PM But she was over 55, when "senior citizenship" starts. She was old enough to be their grandmother. Are you guys crazy or what?! MRS G was hardly old enough to be their grandmother (nowadays people get pregnant when they're in their forties lol!): she was like a mature mother to them since she was 40 years older than them, and already had 2 grown up sons, so that doesn't make her a granny to my eyes! JR1 02-01-2020, 03:39 PM Well, there have been women who were grandmothers in their 30s, so if the girls were teens and Mrs. G was in her 50s, it was possible. valentina warner 02-01-2020, 03:47 PM Well, there have been women who were grandmothers in their 30s, so if the girls were teens and Mrs. G was in her 50s, it was possible. That must have been back in the 'medieval' times hee hee hee! '80sSitcoms 02-01-2020, 04:57 PM It's extremely common for women in their 50s to be grandmothers. Their children can be in their 30s, and their grandchildren are teenagers. Like i say, it was common back in time: today most women have their children in their 30 s and 40 s, so grandmother's can be in their 60 s when the first baby arrives :D(my grandmother was 50 years old when i was born) '80sSitcoms 02-02-2020, 10:48 PM Right, and this was back in the '80s. I always felt Mrs. Garrett was like a 3rd grandmother to me, and a surrogate one for the girls. Fallon97 02-07-2020, 12:21 PM I think she was the closest to Tootie, mostly because Tootie was the baby of the group. 80s Dude 02-07-2020, 04:50 PM She seemed close to Cindy and Molly too. She spent lots of time alone with Molly. '80sSitcoms 02-07-2020, 05:35 PM Yes, there were quite a few Mrs. Garrett and Molly "asides". valentina warner 02-07-2020, 06:14 PM Yes, there were quite a few Mrs. Garrett and Molly "asides". I'm sorry but i don't see how she was close to MOLLY: BLAIR was definitely the one MRS G was closest to on season 1 (most episodes are focused on both of them with a lot of interacting). If anything, i'd say as next SUE ANN would be as second close, then NAT as third, NANCY as fourth, then CINDY, TOOTIE and lastly MOLLY. Like we said, Mrs. Garrett has many asides with Molly, not to mention the whole episode "Molly's Holiday". After the "Diff'rent Strokes" episode "The Girls' School", Mrs. Garrett barely had any closeness with Nancy at all. valentina warner 02-07-2020, 06:37 PM Like we said, Mrs. Garrett has many asides with Molly, not to mention the whole episode "Molly's Holiday". Ok, so MRS G has the whole episode with MOLLY on 'Molly's holiday', but that's the only 'closeness' between them: she was definitely closer to BLAIR. 80s Dude 02-07-2020, 06:40 PM Ok, so MRS G has the whole episode with MOLLY on 'Molly's holiday', but that's the only 'closeness' between them: she was definitely closer to BLAIR. Molly was teaching Mrs. Garrett photography on Running and she and Molly were discussing Dan Rather on the cold opener to Flash Flood. Plus Mrs. Garrett and Molly were together alot in the background during Flash Flood when Molly was talking to someone named Bob Ringwald on the radio. '80sSitcoms 02-07-2020, 06:58 PM Ok, so MRS G has the whole episode with MOLLY on 'Molly's holiday', but that's the only 'closeness' between them: No it's not. lol We pointed out there are many "asides" between them throughout the season. Plus Mrs. Garrett and Molly were together alot in the background during Flash Flood when Molly was talking to someone named Bob Ringwald on the radio. The call letters may have been the same, but Molly was talking to K6YBV, someone in presumably the Peekskill area (I often think of it as a boy near her own age in the geographical region). valentina warner 02-07-2020, 07:05 PM No it's not. lol We pointed out there are many "asides" between them throughout the season. The call letters may have been the same, but Molly was talking to K6YBV, someone in presumably the Peekskill area (I often think of it as a boy near her own age in the geographical region). Even back then, all one had to do was to call the FCC to see who K6YBV is. I also don't know of any 12 year old who would be interested in Ham radios unless their they had a parent who was and they used Ham radios like parents and kids used cell phones today. Both Molly and Bob Ringwald revised the original script because they didn't find the original conversation realistic. '80sSitcoms 02-07-2020, 10:38 PM Even back then, all one had to do was to call the FCC to see who K6YBV is. But in the fictional episode, it's a fictional someone in the Peekskill geographical area. Again, in my mind, it's a boy her own age. I also don't know of any 12 year old who would be interested in Ham radios unless their they had a parent who was and they used Ham radios like parents and kids used cell phones today. Well maybe Molly Parker's orthodontist father Jeff got her interested in ham radios when she was younger. :) |
