There was a case about a man who worked in a restaurant and apparently had lost his ability to speak due to a war injury. One day it was "miraculously" restored after he was injured again and it turns out he had angered the mafia and they were after him. He went on the run with a love interest and her family was seeking her. Her dad tried to shoot out a tire on her car when he almost found her one day and this just fueled the guys b.s mob story. What was the final outcome of this?

That was the Tony DeCompo case. He was eventually arrested for another crime, though it's uncertain if he ever faced penalties for the crimes he committed that were shown in the UM segment.

This scumbag recently (https://www.backpacker.com/stories/thru-hikes/trail-stories/kidnapped-on-the-pacific-crest-trail/) found another victim about 2 years ago. He was never held for longer than a day in jail. He is still lurking around various hiking trails in the California area.
