So in the episode from season 6 "Hearts And Flowers" there's a bit in which Jack calls up to break a date and can't seem to find a good excuse to tell the woman Bobbie, and so Teri who is right next to him does a little cleaned up sexy dance diversion which gives Jack the excuse to tell Bobbie over the phone that he's visiting a sick friend with strep throat.

I mean the whole bit could have been done if Jack with one hand cupping over the phone and Teri could have just as told him what to say right there, right?

Yeah, but then the writers couldn't use a game of charades for laughs. That's the hard part about situation comedies. Not a whole lot of plausible humorous situations come up in real life. That's why writing for a sitcom must be harder than a Law and Order episode, where they just rip stories from the headlines.
