The solo career of Paul McCartney will be celebrated in a new retrospective package, Pure McCartney, to be released in three formats on 10 June. It features material from his 1970 debut album right the way through to 2015 and will be available in 2CD, 4CD and 4LP sets, with the 4CD version featuring a massive 67 tracks.

"Me and my team came up with the idea of putting together a collection of my recordings with nothing else in mind other than having something fun to listen to,” says McCartney. “Maybe it's to be enjoyed on a long car journey or an evening at home or at a party with friends? So we got our heads together and came up with these diverse playlists from various periods of my long and winding career.”

The music in the collection features highlights and personal favourites from Paul's solo albums, his years with Wings and in his experimental dance incarnation with The Fireman.

"The word 'career' is a bit misleading,” adds McCartney, “because to me it has been more like a musical adventure than a proper job. It pleases me, and often amazes me, that I've been involved in the writing and recording of so many songs, each of them so different from the others."

I'm as big a Beatles and McCartney fan as anyone. Play their/his music constantly. I've seen him many times. Usually up front. Spent untold thousands on his shows and put scalpers' kids through college. A quick look at this I'd say there are 12 great songs and another 5 or so good ones. That's out of about 65. And most of those I have already.

The truth is that it's hard to write a great song and Paul just doesn't have the motivation he used to. Even if he wrote Hey Jude today it would be just another great McCartney song.

Paul McCartney is releasing a new greatest hits cd? What a surprise because my mother likes Paul McCartney and so do I and recently my aunt gave my mom a Paul McCartney cd and my mother LOVED it and plus the cd had the song Say Say Say that I was looking for because it had Michael Jackson on it. I hope this new greatest hits cd by Paul McCartney will be worth buying because Paul McCartney is such a talented singer
