View Full Version : Not sure why Archie was saying he was fired when he clearly told Edith that.
TVFactFan 03-28-2016, 09:23 PM his job lost the Government contract which is how they were paid. So why did this fool say he got fired instead of laid off?
Funny scene
Archie reading the want ads and comes across a ad that says..."dishwashers are needed"
Archie then says......"Of course they are who the hell wants that job"

Isn't it weird seeing old TV shows, people actually looking in the newspaper want ads for jobs??? Now everything is online job websites ( even for the simplest jobs) ,having to submit a resume online!!!
I remember when I started applying for jobs in the mid to late 70's!!! All the job listings were in the paper or even help wanted signs outside the places !!! You just walked in places and filled out an application or called a phone number to inquire about the job and set up an interview , so much different than now days!!! :)

The guy that Archie in competition looked like he could be Walter Findlay from Maude:lol:
I;m sure he could have found something a little better than Janitor with his background. Of course he was going to be told he was overqualified for a janitor job. That's like me losing my job and applying for a Walmart lol
mets82 03-29-2016, 12:12 AM To me, I thought the old way was better. Now, sometimes, applying for a job on the internet is a pain in the ass.

I made sure I focused on ads that allowed you to email your resume directly to a actual person. Not some silly online application that took 45 mins

What, you mean you don't like having to fill out your employment history dating back to the beginning of time only to never get a call back? Seriously, one wastes at least an hour of their life filling out an online job application.

True even some jobs are so yucky that even when you're down and out you won't take them. But at least to me, a janitor job isn't so bad. But when the wolf is at the door, and you need to put food on the table, it's infuriating to be told you're overqualified.
The way around this is to have multiple resumes. Some of which are dumbed down. Although, granted, it was much harder to do this in the 70s with just a typewriter.
That's why you don't fill out online applications
Any job that pays worth a damn these days will have you apply online. What job do you work where you didn't apply online to get it?
