Is it true that Dolph Sweet was set to play Archie Bunker, but backed out right before the first taping of pilot #1 when negotiations didn't go his way?

Carol O'Connor was perfect for the role but I could see Dolph Sweet playing Archie b/c they resembled one another a bit. I don't know about the truth of whether or not he was supposed to play the role though.

Dolph would have made an interesting Archie.

That being said though, given how iconic and revered the show was with Carroll as Archie; it's hard to imagine someone else as Archie.
