And than in the last season Floyd came back for a couple eps. with no explanation why he was gone? I know Charley got very sick and the actor Smiley Burnett passed away,:( but Floyd stayed on and did both jobs (conductor and engineer) for a while. Than Wendell came on and no Floyd with no explanation? :(

I wonder why? Did the actor Rufe Davis not want to be on anymore? Because I could see no reason why they would want to get rid of him. And Wendell wasn't really that good! IMO he could never fill the shoes of Charley or Floyd as a railroad man! And I was just reading the actor that played Wendell ended up getting very ill and couldn't be on anymore! So when a railroad man was needed in a couple eps in the last season, Floyd was back! It's just so strange that he left and was replaced by Wendell in the first place! Anyone know why?

The story I heard is that Rufe's wife (think her name was Hermonie) was suffering from ill health and Rufe took time off to care for her.

Oh, that is sweet, he's a dear man to take care of his wife over his acting job! :)

It is a hard thing to face, but we must. Many of these favorite series, of the 1950s, '60s, and 70's had many elderly characters, by mature actresses and actors, are simply falling off the twig. It is almost shocking, that a mid-1990s series, involving young -to- middle age characters, have had so many of their cast die, long before their "pull-by" date.

"All right, Ellayn. What's a `pull-by' date?"

Any time before Social Security, okay?
