This happens constantly on Dish and Direct TV with various channels. Even if they drop NBC they'll bring it back, they just love to play hardball with our money and channels.

Dish has done it with AMC, and ABC, and other channels, then they come back.
Nothing on NBC we watch so I won't worry about it.

These disputes happen all the time between providers and whatever networks they decide to fight with. I remember a few years ago when TWC took off CBS one summer. Another current fight is COMCAST and the YES network:

Personally, I could not last a summer without the Yankee games

I've heard about this and not only is Dish Network losing NBC but also Univision and CBS as well. For a time I witnessed this when my parents had a cable service that dropped ABC a long time ago when a CW station took over a ABC station and what the cable company did for us when our ABC station went broke was they offered to let us drop one channel and replace it with a ABC station but then we moved to a new house and forgot all about it and cancelled our cable. But in 2003 we finally got a ABC station and when my parents got Direct TV we got ABC too. Why I think Dish Network is dropping NBC is because I think they are thinking of adding more channels and they want to offer the local channels in a separate package because not only will it save money but will make a whole lot of Dish Network customers happy to see more channels added,
Bestie,
P.S. To answer the previous poster's question about the YES Network. YES Network is a channel devoted to the New York Yankees and a lot of the Yankees games can be found there
