Fans tuned out and didn't like it...
Personally, I think it was their loss. Missed out on some great stories with Rider Strong and the father...great acting between the two...

My favorite seasons are 1-4, with season 3 being my absolute favorite of the series. The writing in seasons 5-7 was either way too dramatic or way too silly, there wasn't a happy medium.

During its original run, I tended to prefer the later years to the early years. In fact, season five was my favorite. However, since getting all seasons on DVD, I've come to really appreciate seasons 2-5 the most. I still like all eras of the series but I think the show was at its best during seasons 2-5.

I didn't watch the last season because of all the drama, I know fans will disagree but they should have stuck a Saved By The Bell type of structure, more silliness and less teen angst.

I have the opposite opinion. I think the writing became LESS sophisticated over time. I'm with the poster who said seasons 2-5 were the best. Those seasons were fantastic. The High School Years were Boy Meets World for me. I found season 6 to be very mediocre, though with a few high points. A lot of season 7 was downright unwatchable but there were still some great high points. Season 1 doesn't really leave an impression on me. I'd probably rank it down there with 7.

If I had to rank the seasons:
4, 3, 5, 2, 6, 1, 7
