My friend Keisha has bed bugs and cockroaches. She's very upset. She has limited vision (not as bad as mine). She called me Thursday. I hadn't heard from her recently. Now, I know she's been dealing with bugs. Just the thought is enough to make my skin crawl. I hope I never have that happen. She lives with her parents and in the last 4 months two of her brothers moved home because of financial reasons. She told me the bed bugs are in her bedroom, the front room in the living room (couch) and her brothers' bedroom. There are also roaches in the bedroom her brothers are in. I'm too afraid to have her visit me or to go there. I have heard that bed bugs jump on people and I don't need that to happen.

Has anyone had beg bugs? If so, how did you handle it? Was it bed bugs or were there roaches also?

I'm wondering why her parents haven't called an exterminator?Maybe they can't afford it? I can't understand how people can live like that. I too would be worried about her coming to visit. She could be transferring bedbugs in her luggage or on her clothes. I feel sorry for her. Maybe an anonymous call to the health department could send someone to her home. Bedbugs have become a serious problem all over. I wonder, where do they come from?

I also wanted to ask about an exterminator, but was also afraid to bring up the money issue.

Yeah!! Wow!! There's nothing that can be done except for fumigation! That is the only thing that gets rid of them I think? I don't blame you for not wanting to go there and even have her come over your house with this going on! IDK but I guess she could bring them in on her clothes or belongings and that's the last thing you need! Better not take any chances!

I've never had bed bugs .I've had roaches before, and we rent so the landlord provided the exterminator!

Hoping it gets taken care of. That is awful. Roaches are gross and annoying, but bedbugs eww, that is a whole other (worse) thing!

Thanks for your thoughts. I let her know that they need to get an exterminator. She doesn't know if her parents will go for that because of the cost. I know she's told me before that her parents can be very cheap. I understand watching how much money you spend, but something like this I think they will have to spring for. Otherwise the bug situation will get worse. I feel bad for her, but I agree. I can't take the chance of letting her come here. They go to church on Sundays. They could be unknowningly giving bedbugs to others by being there.

Wow, how scary for your friend! Dr. Oz did a show on bed bugs a while back, and it was just petrifying. I learned that their only food is blood. The bugs are flat, but after they feed on their "host", they fill up fat and red. They insert a needle type thing into the skin to numb it, then they go at it. It can take 10 minutes or more. A bug doctor actually showed bugs feeding on her arms.

Roaches just want to eat your trash. They can be a sign of a dirty home, either you or your neighbor. Having bed bugs isn't a sign of uncleanliness. Your friend and her family have a problem (many tiny problems really). I'm glad you're there for her. Do it from a distance though. You can't take any chances.

They need an exterminator, no ifs, ands or buts about it. It will only get worse if they ignore it.

Thanks. I will let her know. I think having the important information will make a difference.

^ Wow, that's a lot of money. I wonder why it's so expensive. Did it work right away? I'm curious, did you get bit, and if you did, does it hurt?
