View Full Version : Lionel Had No Real Place Here
PracTz 03-01-2016, 08:02 PM I mean, on AITF, he was the young voice of reason and the conscience for his parents and even Archie.
On this show, the characters and situations became too broad for that so all they could have him do was be a college student then aspiring exec dating, then marrying then separating from a biracial woman but his character here had hardly a hint of the depth (much less intelligence) he'd had on AITF. IMO, it would have been better had he just joined the Peace Corps after the Pilot then his parents and the Willises could have still sparred over Tom's different pigmentation as mere neighbors. Jenny was pretty (and Miss Tolbert did all anyone could have done with the character) but, sorry, IMO she had the depth of a rain puddle.

Probably because he was a grown man and should have either been in college or on his own. They would have eventually happen if he stayed on the show until season 3. That's why he seemed out of place
On AITF he was only the neighbor so his living situation was never seen
Dianne3 03-02-2016, 07:52 PM Does anyone on here ever check the ratings for the Jeffersons?
The Jeffersons were only a top 10 show during the years of Lionel No.1.
The ratings are mind-boggling.
Without Lionel No. 1, the Jeffersons were either in the low end of the Top 30 or out of the Top 30.
As for Jenny, the show didn't give her an identity outside of Lionel.
When you think of the Jeffersons, right away you know Marla Gibbs is still living. Then it's of yeah, so is Belinda Tolbert.
It shouldn't be that way because BT was on the Jeffersons it's entire run, wasn't she?
The Jeffersons also didn't deal with George's mothers death, which is also mind boggling.

That sounds about right.
The show was a basic corny sitcom especially the later seasons.
After watching through the series twice on Antenna I know why i only remembered a few episodes from when i was a kid. The other ones were not memorable.
Don't get me wrong, it's a very watchable show but nothing spectacular like AITF or Good Times.

OK, do you really have the power to get someone to log out? If so, will you be hacking someone's user to log out? Or are you just saying those which are not really true?
And by 'crazy' from what you think is that maybe someone disagrees with you, and for that it is doesn't mean it is crazy

I am currently watching Season 4 and I believe that is when Florence's part really started to get big. Mother Jefferson was still living in real life, but not for long. Damon Evans's Lionel is still with the show, but not in many episodes by now.
For those watching at the time, it would be jarring to see characters who were once regulars, still in the opening credits, but hardly mentioned.
It was years 4 and 5 that the Jeffersons were not in the top 30.
So, how was Lionel's absence from the show explained after Damon Evans left? Was it?
I take it because there was no Lionel is year 5, was why we had Alan, right?
