Amazon customers without a Prime membership will have to spend more to get free shipping. The Internet retailer hiked the minimum for free shipping to $49, up from $35. Amazon Prime members are not affected by the change and will continue to get free two-day shipping on all orders.

I know what you mean. When my internet bill went to $81, I called Time Warner and said I would cancel without a significantly better price. I said I could easily live without it given the numerous hot spots, free wifi at libraries and where I work. They lowered it to $56, which I can live with. This rate is good for 12 months, and if I don't get another promo in a year, I WILL cancel then!

OH NUTS, My comcast cable bill has gone up from $172. to 218.00. I grumbled to the lovely rep but she could only lower my bill $4.00 but said I could get 1 new free converter/dvr and 1 new converter box, both with new features. So I said send them along. I did say the postage might a bit but she said no we take care of postage for sending you the new and you send us back the old at no charge. The price is a lot but I try to see a lot too.

I think commodities like shampoo and washing powder which you can buy from the pound shop (I guess it's the $ shop where you are) have never been cheaper in real terms. However the price of utilities such as gas, electric and water have shot up exponentially since they were privatized here in the 1980s.
