"Baskets", FX's sad rodeo clown comedy, has been renewed for a second season, the network announced Tuesday. The second season will debut in early 2017.

"Baskets is bold, brilliant and incredibly funny and we could not be happier with the reception it's received in its breakout first season," FX President of Programming Eric Schrier said in a statement.

"Baskets brings together three of the most innovative comedic minds working today - Zach, Louis and Jonathan - and we thank them, the rest of the creative team and the entire cast for everything they've done for the series."

The Zach Galifianakis-led series had the most-watched basic cable comedy premiere since 2014 when it bowed last month.

Created by Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and "Portlandia" co-creator Jonathan Krisel, "Baskets" follows the trials and tribulations of Chip Baskets (Galifianakis), an aspiring theatrical clown who moves back to his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., and takes a job as a rodeo clown after washing out of his fancy French clown school.
