EXCLUSIVE: "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Casts Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Slingshot

ComicBook.com can exclusively reveal that Natalia Cordova-Buckley (McFarland, USA) has been cast as Elena Rodriguez on ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.".

The character is described as a street-wise Colombian woman given Inhuman abilities. She is based on Slingshot from the Secret Warriors comic series.



In the Marvel Comics universe, Rodriguez (who goes by the nickname Yo-Yo) is the daughter of Griffin. She has the ability to move at super speed and snap back to the spot she started from, hence the nickname and codename.

She is one of the caterpillars recruited by Nick Fury into the Street Warriors. During an operation, she has both of her arms cut off by the Gorgon, one of Hydra's deadliest agents. She then gets both of her arms replaced by prosthetics and returns to active duty.

"Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Ups Natalia Cordova-Buckley to Series Regular for Season 5 – NY Comic-Con

"Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." won’t debut its fifth season until later this year but the ABC super spy series is already setting the stage with Natalia Cordova-Buckley being promoted to a series regular.

“Natalia is a powerhouse in her work and in her daily life, and she has imbued one of our favorite characters with her natural strength and humor,” said "S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell today of Cordova-Buckley and her role as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez.

“Natalia was instantly a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. family the first day she walked onto set, and we’re happy she’s now an official member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team,” the trio added of the actress.
