Watching an early season ep and I have to say ... I love Kirk! I have NO idea why I love slimeball characters like Dan from Night Court or Kirk from Dear John, I just do and I always have respected them. It's not that I am like that way myself but ... I think he is a good character and he had good development. Thoughts?

I do too! I like him so much better than Michael and was so devastated when he moved out and married Cindy. I hated Cindy! I like Larry, Darryl and Darryl fine but Kirk and Stephanie are my fave characters on Newhart.

When I first started watching this show I thought Kirk was kind of annoying but he's really one of those characters that grows on you over time.
Now I love his character and he always makes me laugh. A shame he never made any guest appearances in seasons 3-8.

Lol, I detest this character! I'm always so glad when he's finally gone from the series. Btw, I get such a kick out of Michael and his alliteration! I'm curious: was Kirk on Newhart for 2 or 3 seasons? Whoops! I could see from the reply before mine that Kirk wasn't in any of the seasons beyond 1&2.

I thought he was great. Reminded me a little of Steve Martin’s character in The Jerk.

I think they would have had to soften his character a bit as time went on, and they were starting to do that when they brought Cindy on.

But I missed him when he was gone. I never found Michael funny at all. A little of him went a long way, and he and Stephanie together were nauseating.

He reminds me of myself.
