Mr. Bentley wasn't in any season 9 episodes. Why did Paul Benedict leave the series only to come back?

George often made racial cracks towards Tom, calling him "honky." How come he never did that to Mr. Bentley or Ralph or Charlie for that matter?

Okay, I just got done watching "Louise's Setback" and George did call Mr. Bentley "honky" in that episode.

He didn't say it to them often because he wasn't forced to see them when he didn't want to like Tom. Plus he needed Ralph for building service and Charlie for whenever he wanted to go to the bar

Tom was just the white guy married to the black woman who was part of his family

I think Benedict left to pursue outside projects. He made a couple of TV movies or mini series and he had a small part with the Steve Martin film (1982-83). Whether he left TJ voluntarily or they decreased his appearances or acting time, I do not know.

However, I did not care for the Sammy/Tammy guy that moved in next door.

I agree that he was sorely missed in Season 9.
