I use a Magnavox (a great vanishing brand) DVD/VCR combo burner that I bought YEARS ago. I'm not sure of the model number.

I usually set my Directv DVR to record the shows and then play them back and pause the machine to cut out the commercials.

I've recorded several complete series from TV by doing this like: Murphy Brown, Blossom, A Different World, Diff'rent Strokes, and 227.

Do u think Wal-Mart or Best buy or whoever has good DVD/DVR combos that are fairly inexpensive? I really want to record "Svengoolie" from MeTV but the ones I find are like $330 (your brand.) Hopefully I will find something soon!

I only paid 100 or so for mine. Can't really remember the price because it was so long ago when I bought it.

Ok. I would really like to record "Svengoolie" off of MeTV and burn it to discs. I'd also like to record and burn "Johnny Carson", "Small Wonder", "Mr. Belvedere", "One Day at a Time" and "Dear John" off of Antenna and burn them to discs.

I also get Laff, and maybe they'll get "Murphy Brown", "Perfect Strangers" & "Blossom". I'd sure like to have those on disc.

I'm sure they have them for 100 or so dollars and that really isn't too much. I will start looking. Thanks!

Why burn them to DVDs?
Because we like physical media.

If recording in .mts format, I suggest ConvertXtoDVD.

Just transfer to your computer, load it in program.
Change edit forward/back button to click per frame.
Cut 2 frames of black before commercial through 2 frames after last commercial.

You can also use CCextractor to rip the Closed Captions into a srt.
Do this before the above mentioned process, keep in same folder with mts
and you will also have the option to add subtitles to the project.
(hardcoded optional, so make sure that's set right)

Thanks, but I don't really want to go through all that trouble.
