I was a 1970's child and watched Saturday morning cartoons like a lot of people in my generation. Frankly, the only cartoons I really loved were three, WB cartoons (especially Roadrunner), Pink Panther (my favorite cartoon ever, especially the older 1960's ones) and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.

This is about obviously Fat Albert. I really liked this show because it taught morals and honestly the show emulated what good parents would tell their children, don't lie, don't steal, trust in the police, trust in teachers, and friendship to other people, and how to overcome difficulties in home life and life in general. It was a wonderful series for children. Still today, if I had children, I would want them to watch this show.

Bill Cosby was wonderful in this show. He was basically sort of a second Mr. Rodgers to me, but a more hip, cool, younger, hip version of such. Cosby received a Masters of Education, and although I think this show made Cosby good money, he did the show because he cared about youth and especially black youth (but all youth) into doing right. I also cheerleaded Cosby in telling youth of later generations against the "thug life" and being a respectable citizen. Cosby grew up poor in an inner city of Philadelphia (a tough town) and through hard work became a success he became. He was (and emphasizing WAS) until recently, a great role model for youth.

The Cosby Show was great also. Many so called "black leaders" thought of the Cosby Show as unrealistic which showed really who the racists were, that there is no way that a black man could be a successful doctor could be married to a successful lawyer with five good kids, when there are many, many good African American families who have done just that!

I knew before the scandals as an adult that Cosby had somewhat of a wild side, and even somewhat of a militant side to him. He famously slugged Tommy Smothers in the face, which I feel was more or less Tommy's fault for being a jerk, and hey, he was a cool, hip guy from 1960's-1970's TV.

This is what really, really disappoints me about the Cos'. I think there is a lot of goodness in the man, and he really tried his best to uplift his community and be a great role model to just disintergrate into what he is now to everyone. It is a great disappointment to all. It is sad and maddening. Cosby should have been one of the good guys. An educator, someone who felt that Saturday morning cartoons should be more than stupidity and violence. Cosby just let down everyone, and frankly a hero of mine might end up a criminal felon because he couldnt keep it in his pants. Fat Albert is sad, so am I.
