"Homeland's" Morroco Omari Nabs Recurring Role on "Empire"
by Michael Slezak
February 5, 2016

Lucious Lyons’ stint behind bars at the start of "Empire‘s" second season may have just been a warmup.

The Fox drama has cast Morocco Omari (Homeland) in a major recurring role as an FBI hotshot who’ll cause trouble for the ousted head of Empire Entertainment — and he might wind up being a series regular.

Omari will play Tariq Cousins, who started off as one of the finest cops ever to work the streets of Philadelphia, then advanced to a post at the FBI where he eventually rose to the head of his entire department.

Described as “a closer,” Tariq is “extremely bright and supremely confident — he never shows his hand, but doesn’t hide his intentions.”

It’s expected that Tariq will go “toe-to-toe” with Lucious — without any flinching. That’s where his smooth style — tempered by “an air of the streets” — will come in handy.

“He moves without remorse, yet will always offer a person what’s fair before taking them out.”

"Empire's" cast is expanding yet again. The hip-hop drama has promoted Morocco Omari to series regular ahead of season three, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Omari first appeared in the final three episodes of Empire's second season as Tariq Cousins, an FBI agent seemingly out to get Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Empire Entertainment.

In addition to Tariq having a past with Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) — they grew up together in Philadelphia — Lucious' mother revealed in the season-two finale that Lucious and Tariq are actually half-brothers.

"Empire's" third season premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. on Fox.
