I can't let the week pass without a respectful tribute to the talented actor Frank Finlay, who has died aged 90. From humble beginnings in a grimy industrial northern England town he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and quite simply became a master of his craft, turning his mind to any role, including Shakespeare and Dickens.

He may best be remembered for playing Peter Manson in the 1976 adaptation for television of Andrea Newman's novel Bouquet of Barbed Wire, which was ahead of its time. I will particularly remember him as the judge in the 1988 film The Aftermath, concerning the Mount Erebus Air Disaster, the link for which I post here, showing Frank's own inimitable style, and I hope he approves of the epitaph I have chosen for him. https://youtu.be/2ivz6lAJwJ8

Frank Finlay was wonderfully scary as ghost Jacob Marley in 1984's "A Christmas Carol".Other than that film I am not familiar with his work. May he rest in peace. :(

He appeared in some forgettable horror films- Ring Of Darkness, and Mansion of Cthulhu. And the fun horror scifi Lifeforce. But he was excellent as Lestrade in Bob Clark's Sherlock Holmes film Murder By Decree.
