In the last episode, Wojo gets transferred to the K-9 corps, while Levitt gets promoted to detective. I assume that had to be a demotion for Wojo, unless he was going to be a supervisor or something.

That's an interesting theory, Alan Brady's Hair. Throughout most of "Barney Miller's" eight-season run, poor Stanley Thaddeus Wojohowicz (Max Gail) was always studying for the sergeant's exam or fretting about being demoted. In season three's "The Rand Report," Wojo is actually assigned to uniform duty one week per month because he is still a third-grade detective. But in the following season (in the episode "Copy Cat"), Wojo is finally promoted to sergeant.

In the three-part series finale, "Landmark," Wojo is indeed reassigned to Roosevelt Island's K-9 corps after the city closes the 12th Precinct. That was quite a letdown for Wojo, since he was previously bitten by a dog (in season five's "Dog Days"); needless to say, he took the news quite badly.

In my honest opinion, it's difficult to say if Levitt (Ron Carey) got promoted over Wojo; Levitt was always begging Barney (Hal Linden) to be permanently reassigned upstairs with the rest of the boys. In later episodes, however (beginning in season four), Levitt is actually assigned plainclothes duty upstairs on occasion.

That's true, and Harris isn't too thrilled about being relocated to Flushing Meadows in Queens, either...I guess it's easy to see why Harris decide to resign from the NYPD to write full-time.

Thanks for responding to my post, Alan Brady's Hair. Enjoy your day.
