TV actor Mike Minor has died

Mike Minor, best remembered as Steve Eliot on the “Petticoat Junction” TV series has died. He was 75 years old.

Mike Minor always longed for a career in professional baseball (there is currently a major league player named Mike Minor, who is no relation to the actor), but his natural athletic ability was accompanied by a fine singing voice. He began taking voice lessons at 10 and was already signing in clubs as a teenager.

His character of Steve Eliot was on “Petticoat Junction” over four seasons, marrying Betty Jo Bradley (Linda Kaye Henning) and having the child Kathy Jo as the series continued. However, the rumor that Minor sang the show’s title song is false (it was sung by composer Curt Massey). During his time on the series, he released two albums and several singles, and appeared with Ozzie and Harriet Nelson on stage in “The Impossible Years.”

When “Petticoat Junction” left the air in 1970, Minor worked in daytime drama, appearing on “The Edge of Night,” “As The World Turns,” “Another World,” and “All My Children.” His last TV acting appearance was on a 1993 episode of L.A. Law. In 1999, Minor performed on Broadway as Inspector James Ascher in "A Perfect Crime."

Mike Minor’s athletic prowess never landed him a pro baseball contract, but he did excel in golf as he got older. He was a member of the Hollywood Hackers.

Minor was born Michael Fedderson, and was the son of television producer Don Fedderson, best known for the “My Three Sons” TV series. His late younger brother, Gregg Fedderson, was also an act. Minor was married Linda Kaye Henning in real life for five years, but they had no children. He has a son from a former marriage.

Mike Minor died of cancer on Monday January 25, 2016.

Is it really confirmed that he has passed? I haven't really found anything more on the internet besides what was posted here? And if he died Jan.25,why are we just knowing about it now , five days later!

I don't want to believe it!

I wasn't sure either until after the FB post. Sometimes it takes awhile for minor celebrities to be mentioned in the mainstream media. I was thinking of you when I heard about it. I knew that you were a fan of his. It seems like he had cancer. :(

Although I have to admit it is confusing. TV Line had his obituary posted but when I went to their link it was taken down.

Reading what's left of it on Google it seems they posted it because it was posted on Marc Berman's Program Insider. I've been reading Marc's columns for years so I know he's respectable but I suppose he could have made a mistake. Too many conflicting articles.

I'm wondering if it is true, it will come up on METV! Since they currently show Petticoat Junction. I know when Wayne Rogers died, they acknowledged it and showed Trapper John themed eps. of Mash I think for a week. I haven't watched METV at all day today!

Reading down that FB page, the person that reported it seems to have had contact with Linda who had told her he had throat cancer. If she heard it from Linda then it's legit.

The character of Steve was something of a 'model' to me. I was just a 7 or 8 year old kid when he came on the show and I really liked him. He had his own plane, all the girls on the show liked him, and he seemed so "clean cut" compared to the hippies everybody was talking about. So I liked it that he stayed on the show and eventually married one of the girls. I went through something similar with My Three Sons around that same time, when "Katie" was added as a regular and married Robbie. [My interest in her, however, was different from Steve; she did something to me he didn't.] And, of course, there is a relation between those 2 shows in Don Fedderson, Mike Minor's dad.

This is sad news. "Steve" didn't miss by much the 50th anniversary of his crashing by the Shady Rest Hotel. My thoughts and prayers to Mike Minor's family.

What a beautiful tribute! I have tears in my eyes as I'm reading!!

Thanks for posting Zoneboy! I was interested in knowing if he had more siblings besides Gregg who passed and I knew he had a child, but didn't know a son or a daughter, and I figured he probably would have grand children too!

From Marlene Duerr Fedderson which was posted on that FB page

On behalf of Michael's family and friends, we want to first thank all of you for your love and support during this sad time.
We do want to provide you with correct information as the media sources have erroneously reported both the date (Jan 25) and cause (cancer) of death.
Michael's date of passing is Thursday, January 28, 2016. He did not have cancer. Although he passed suddenly please know his passing was peaceful.
Again we thank you for all your support. Michael's deep love for family, friends and fans will remain forever in each of our hearts. With love,
Marlene (sister-in-law, wife of Dana Fedderson)

Betty Jo and Steve were so cute! I purchased the complete series of Petticoat Junction from a seller online who recorded the series on dvd from tv. I have just finished season 5. So sorry to hear of Mike"s passing. She said he died suddenly so I am assuming he had a heart attack. The last time that I saw him he was quite overweight. So that may have been a factor. Anyway, may he rest in peace. :(

Yeah I read that his Father had died of heart problems! That is what I'm thinking too, that Mike's death was heart related! :(

Just today I watched an episode of My 3 Sons: "Fly Away Home" ep. 7.2. On it Steve Douglas returns to the hometown he grew up in and in it you hear the song "Memories" being sung, the news to me is that it's P.Junction's Steve (Mike Minor) singing the song!! Never realized this till I watched the show today and recognized his voice. Bonnie may want to watch this episode to hear her Mike singing Memories, he also sings again at the end of the show, the end of the song Memories. Enjoy. I've watched My 3 Sons many many times over but today was the first time I recognized who it was singing in the background on "Fly Away Home".

Also when Steve walks up on the porch of the girl he meets again I think(?) it's Andy Griffith's porch from Andy Griffith Show. Not sure, but it looked familiar, it happens near the very end of the show.

By the way, this is all the more reason to have these shows on DVD for yourself, so that you can watch them anytime. If you choose to rely on live TV channel broadcasts to watch these shows, good luck watching My 3 Sons now, for example. It's gone again from broadcast TV. If you don't get them when they pop up you may either never see them again or have to wait 25 years for them to come back.

Just saw this today. Very sad news. I always enjoyed Petticoat Junction, and enjoyed Mr. Minor's work on it. It's sad to think about all the talent we've lost from television's greatest era, but it is good to know that their work will live on forever. My thoughts are with his family at this hard time.
