OK So last night I ordered a 12 inch sub to be delivered from a reputable Pizza Place here where I live, and I pay for it with a debit card over the phone. 20 minutes later the sub sandwich gets here. I sign the receipt and tip the guy. But when I sat down and looked at the back of the receipt, all my debit card information was written down on it. I am talking the 16 digit number, the 3 digit security code and expiration date and my zip code. I was shocked. This has never happened to me before. For all I know the delivery driver could have copied it down and could use it and drain my bank account. I called the Pizza Place and had it out with the manager. The guy who took the order had been working there for 5 years and should have known better than this. I even told her that they could be sued for this. She begged me to forgive them of the screw up and said she'd give the employee a write up for it. I do NOT believe some people. And yes. I did keep the receipt and if anything happens out of the ordinary, I will have my bank investigate it.

What happened to you here is the new normal. This occurs a million times a day thru out the country. The only way to avoid identity thieft is to only use cash and debit cards with extremely limited funds on it. Credit cards are soooo last century.

Yeah Wow!!! That would really make me nervous too!! I really always try to pay in cash as much as possible! Online purchases or on an airplane, some places you just can't! But in stores and restaurants, esp. takeout food , I feel more comfortable paying cash!! ;)

What I can't figure out is why would the person in question write your card info on the back of the receipt after it was already printed?

EEK!
Only use your debit card in ATMs, preferably at your bank.
I have 1 credit card that I only use for online and food orders with only a $1k limit. I also have Lifelock which has proved to be invaluable. If my credit card is compromised, I'm only liable for the first $50. If my debit card were to become compromised... Not good. Not good at all.
