View Full Version : Golden Girls Book??
jayman75 04-08-2002, 07:20 PM Has there ever been a Golden Girls book written? I checked on a couple sites and could not find anything.
I know Betty White wrote about it in one book. I don't think Bea Arthur is planning on writing a book. Estelle Getty wrote a book. Has Rue McClanahan written anything?
Let me know ... :)
TR217 04-16-2002, 05:26 PM Yes, Jayman, I just found out there is a trivia book coming out in the near future. I will bring it to you in a following post ;)
RueMcClanahanFan 04-16-2002, 08:20 PM Right, there's a new trivia book by Michael Dante-Creig (I think that's his name) that's scheduled to be published sometime in the future. It was due to come out last fall, but got pushed back.
There was also another GG book that was only printed for a short time while the show was on and it was only published/available in the UK. It contains 10 scripts, several pages of photos and show info. Unfortunately, it's been out of print for quite some time and is difficult to come by. Every so often, a copy will be put up for bid on eBay but I've seen it go for as much as $300 because it's really in demand and ultra rare. Coincidentally, I actually won a copy of this book on eBay today with the "buy it now feature." Apparently I must have snagged it as soon as it was listed or something. But it's like a dream come true (LOL!) because I've wanted a copy of that book forever - I just figured I'd never get my mits on it because I wasn't about to shell out $300 for a book! :)
Right, Bea said she wouldn't feel right writing an autobiography so I guess we shouldn't expect anything from her. Rue has said that she plans on writing 2 books, actually. One, for which she did an outline, was to be called "My First Five Husbands" and would be about her life/career up until I guess the late 1990's. The second book, she said, would be about her moving back to New York and this new stage in her career (theatre), meeting her [current] husband and battling breast cancer. Whether she actually does ever write a book... we'll see... I'm not holding my breath, but I think Rue really, really should! Lord only knows I'd be first in line to buy about 15 copies... :p

jayman75 04-28-2002, 01:57 PM What's the title of that book? I'll keep my eyes open for it on ebay...
80sTrivia 05-28-2002, 04:36 PM Well, I might be able to clue you in, as I'm the author of the book!!! The book is entitled Thank You For Being A Friend: The Ultimate Golden Girls Trivia Book and, all things willing, should be published by mid-summer, knock on wood. It was originally supposed to be published last year, then the events of 9/11 threw the book publishing world into a tizzy and many mid-list and "small" books, mine being one, were pushed aside, unfortunately. If you would like, I would gladly inform the fans in this forum when the book will be available! I'll even post some sample trivia from the book, it that's acceptable!!!
Michael D. Craig
jayman75 05-29-2002, 03:19 PM Post some trivia, some gossip, some good tidbits... anything you like.
Have you met with any of the ladies about the book?
Get us some details!!! :)
80sTrivia 06-01-2002, 04:01 PM I'll have to wait until the book is published before I can officially post any of the trivia included, for copyright and contractual reasons! I have not met any of the Girls in person, but would like to one day. Maybe if the book is a success I'll have the chance!!! :)

Well, I will definitely buy it. Where will it be available -- amazon.com , bookstores, etc?
80sTrivia 06-01-2002, 11:34 PM Yes, the book should be available through Amazon and Barnes & Nobles.com, as well as other online booksellers. I will keep you informed of the exact publication date!!! Thanks for the interest... my publisher's don't believe the book will sell a single copy, which is why they aren't eager to publish the book or allot any money to promote it... :(
jayman75 06-02-2002, 01:23 PM You tell your publishers that they remind you of someone in St. Olaf... and go crazy with a story. :)

TheGoldenGirlsUK 06-05-2002, 01:44 PM If anyone is interested, I interviewed Michael some months back, about the GG book and the interview can be found @ http://www.the-goldengirls.com/GG_Interview/gg_interview.html :)
Eagerly awaiting it's release

80sTrivia 06-06-2002, 02:12 PM Hi again, Sam. Yes, I've been terribly busy, what with promoting my other books and putting the finishing touches on my novel. Still no official publication date for the Golden Girls book yet, which doesn't exactly surprise me anymore. If they don't publish the book by the first part of next year, I can legally break my contract and search for another publisher!!! :)

What's the latest, 80s? Any date set for release?
80sTrivia 07-07-2002, 07:46 PM Still no official word from the publishers yet, Jay. Knowing them, they might just publish it without telling me and I'll find out by surfing the Net! I promise to keep everyone updated and thank you for your patience! :)
jayman75 07-08-2002, 01:36 PM Good to hear man! I'm looking forward to it.
;)
Goldenboi 09-08-2002, 06:11 AM Just a bump. Any word on the book's publication? I can't believe the editors honestly don't think it will sell at all. It may never get on the NYT list, but Golden Girls has a strong fanbase, one that keeps growing as people who never saw it in it's original run are discovering it for the first time via Lifetime. I would be the first inline to get this book, and I'd tell everyone about it.
jayman75 01-28-2003, 11:58 PM BuMp...
Still not heard anything lately??

I haven't spoken to the author, Michael Dante-Craig, in such a long time but I truly think that if there were any word about it he'd have got in touch so I could update the interview page, and of course, get ready to promote it for him as much as I can at @TGG.
It's a shame it's taking so long but MDC's hands do appear to be very much tied. What with the TV Tales and GG Week on Lifetime I'd have thought the show was as popular as ever and now would be a fantastic time to get the book out. Last week, during the GG week in the US, my stats significantly rose and I think everyone was just that little bit more desperate to find out more about the show and get their hands on any available merchandise.
If anyone hasn't already seen it, you can read the interview I did with Michael @ http://www.the-goldengirls.com/GG_Interview/gg_interview.html . He's a really nice chap and I sincerely hope the GG Book sales go through the roof for him...well, there's absolutely no doubt about that really judging by the amount of fans there seem to be :)
