In the past, I have written quite a bit about shows that have appeared on a local syndication network here in New Jersey. That is because a lot of stuff that has appeared on that channel reminds me of things that have gone on in "Mad About You" and other shows represented on this site. Well, at nine-thirty tonight, there is an episode of "Laverne and Shirley" that also reminds me of "Mad About You"! Those of you who do not watch "Laverne and Shirley" and are familiar with the characters or the situation will have to improvise in your minds as to what I am on about. The episode that is on tonight was made in 1982. One decade before "Mad About You" made its debut. The episode of "Laverne and Shirley" that is on tonight makes me think of the first season "Mad About You" episode called "Sofa's Choice". This episode started with Paul and Jamie being in the market for a new couch for their living room. While the Buchmans were debating what sofa to buy or not buy, their friends Fran and Mark showed up at the department store. After the couch issue had been debated into the ground, Jamie and Fran wanted to try on cloths at the same store. This left Paul and Mark sitting on the couch that the Buchmans were thinking about buying holding the purses. It seems that, very often, when women want to do things that involves their hands or arms, it becomes the job of their husbands or boyfriends to hold their purses. Well, this very thing happened on tonight's "Laverne and Shirley" episode! The two women went to their high school reunion along with their friend Carmine. While they were there, they wanted to go out on the floor and mingle with the other guests. This would involve shaking hands with other people and pouring drinks for themselves. In order for Laverne and Shirley to do this, they needed someplace to leave their purses. Holding became the job of good old Carmine! Just another way that, the more TV shows change, they more they stay the same!
