That football player is way too young to remember the early to mid 70s when the Partridge Family was shown regularly on TV.
The character of the TV show who shares his name ( the youngest son of the singing, fictional Partridge family and who was hardly featured in the episodes)
would now be in his 50s, and I believe that Brian Forster is in his early 50s (as I write this it is January 2016).
Perhaps the grandmother of the football player "Chris Partridge" watched The Partridge Family in the 70s
