NBC Plans "Friends" Reunion

The One with the Reunion is coming.

All six "Friends" stars -- Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer -- will reunite next month at a tribute for legendary sitcom director James Burrows, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Association winter previews.

While all six actors will participate in the special, scheduled to air Feb. 21, Greenblatt couldn't yet guarantee that all of them will be in the same room for the first time since the series ended 12 years ago.

"I'm hoping that all six of them will be in the same room at the same time," he said. "But I'm not sure if we can logistically pull that off."

The tribute will be produced by Sean Hayes, whom Burrows directed in all 194 episodes of "Will & Grace", and will feature stars of other shows Burrows has directed.

Burrows directed the "Friends" pilot and famously took the cast to Las Vegas before the show premiered so they could bond.

He has also helmed "Cheers" (which he also co-created), "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "The Bob Newhart Show", "Lavern & Shirley", "Frasier", "NewsRadio", "The Big Bang Theory" and "2 Broke Girls".

He recently directed his 1,000th episode of television on NBC's upcoming comedy "Crowded".

NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt made a big announcement Wednesday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California.

One of TV's biggest comedy hits is making its return for a two-hour special. The "Friends" cast is reuniting for a tribute episode in honor of director James Burrows, who is also known for his work in "Taxi," "The Bob Newhart Show," and "Cheers."

According to Entertainment Weekly, the entire "Friends" cast is on board for the reunion.

"Friends" launched in 1994 and ran for 10 seasons.

The special will air Sunday, Feb. 21.

UPDATE Jan 14:

We can confirm at least one "Friends" cast member, Matthew Perry, will not be in town to attend the tribute of the veteran sitcom director James Burrows who recently helmed his 1,000 episode.

I hear Perry had informed NBC of his unavailability prior to the James Burrows special announcement at TCA yesterday. Perry, who may tape something for the occasion, is in London rehearsing for his play, The End of Longing, which begins previews on Feb. 2.

The special airs Feb. 21

"I mean, in no way is it a Friends reunion when one member is out of the country,” says Schwimmer, referring to Matthew Perry. Schwimmer says he has no idea what to expect during what is actually a tribute to legendary TV director James Burrows. "I'm flying in that day, so I'm just showing up (http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/friends-reunion-david-schwimmer-discusses-what-to-expect-w161860),” he says. "From what I've been told from Sean Hayes, we're all going to come up on stage and talk about Jim and give him a hug."
