A little over a week ago, I started a thread called "A Handheld Purse". This thread pertained to the episode that was shown that morning and that was called "Katie the Cheat". I thought that the little maroon purse that Julie was carrying really dressed up the outfit that she wore on her date that night. This is one of a bunch of threads that I have started in which I have written about how fond I am of purses. Ever since I was eleven-years-old, I have looked at a girl's purse as one of the things that made her attire different than mine and attractive to me. On even more occasions, I have written about how fond I am of Julie and how she was always my favorite character on this show. One observation that I made very early on is that the character of Katie (who I was not very fond of) was very seldom without a purse. More often that not, Julie would take a purse to school and, out on dates, but I can site more than a handful of occasions in which she was without a purse. As much as I like purses, I think that Julie has what it takes to look sensational even with no purse. Last night I checked the listings and found that at 3 o'clock this morning, there would be the episode "The Robbery". This is the episode in which the police chief won the Officer of the Year Award. He took all three of his girls to the ceremony and they all dressed up. For this event, Julie wore a red dress with a floral design. This is one of the occasions in which I noticed Julie being without a purse. Even so, I thought she looked beautiful! I thought that the dress alone did a great job of flattering her hair and her figure. This is the first of three episodes that I noticed in which Katie and Julie were out together and Katie had a purse with her and Julie did not. The second was from the third season and it was called "Herbie". Nell sent Katie and Julie to the corner store during a storm. At age fourteen I noticed the presence of a purse on Katie's body and the absence on Julie's. I am guessing that, in the minds of the writers, the age difference between the two sisters played a part in this. Later in the third season, we have "Samantha's Protest". Early in this episode, we see Katie and Julie coming through the front door with what appeared to be packages from the dry cleaner. I noticed a purse over Katie's shoulder and no purse on Julie's body. This is another situation in which I thought that Julie look great in a no purse costume! My perception was probably influenced by how much I enjoyed the decency and sophistication that Julie expressed throughout the episode. Before signing off, I would like to offer you guys one more observation about this particular episode. Later in the episode, Nell took Katie and Julie to meet up with Samantha's at the demonstration. Nell took her purse on this trip but Katie and Julie both left their's at home.
