The host/musical guest selection for this show is becoming somebody's idea of a sick joke. Let's take a look at some of the most recent selections:

-Donald Trump. Yeah, that's what the world needed, more publicity for this guy.

-Miley Cyrus. Butt-ugly glutton for attention. Has she done anything other than be the daughter of a washed-up has-been?

-Tracy Morgan. Yeah, I know what happened to him. I'm not a huge fan of bringing back people who were cast members for years and years (and years) for one more round (I'm looking at you Tina Fey and Amy Poehler!), nor am I fan of his anti-gay tirades. This was a play for sympathy and pardon me if I don't fall for it.

-Chris Hemsworth. Wait, didn't he just host an episode? Was there nobody else available?

The rests of the hosts as well as the musical guests are mostly a combination of has-beens who haven't had a hit in decades and new acts I have never even so much as heard of, let alone heard. I remember back in the good ole days when they would sometimes pick an artist that wasn't very well known to viewers but still had talent: like Kate Bush. Nowadays they have people like Miguel. Miguel? Who is this?

It was a well known fact among the smart set that Fridays (the first real competitor to this show) had better writing, better musical guests and the only reason Fridays died a quick death and SNL is still around (more than 3 decades later) was due to some unfortunate time slot change as Fridays got bumped to early Saturday mornings (so ABC could bring you a 5th weekly installment of Nightline). Hell, MadTV was better.

The show is old, aging and stale. I think they need to bring in some better options for the hosts and musical guests or this show will finally die after a couple of near-misses.
