Three days ago, I started a thread called "Many Different Levels". Shortly before I posted this thread, I had watched an episode of "Friends" that reminded me of situations that took place on "Gimme a Break!" in a lot of different ways. Well later the same day, I watched a syndicated episode of "Three's Company" that reminded me of two episodes of "Gimme a Break!" Thus the title that you see on the top of the thread. In this episode, John Ritter's character was with a girl at the local saloon. While they were at a table together, the girl's hands were all over John Ritter (Jack). Jack's landlord happened to be on a bar stool in the same saloon having and drink and watching the action. He asked Jack what in the world was going on. In want of an explanation, Jack said "after she gave up smoking, she had no idea what to do with her hands"! Just like "Gimme a Break!", "Three's Company" was made during the height of the non-smoking generation. The fact that the act of giving up smoking was mentioned reminded me of the second-season episode "Julie Smokes". On an entirely different level, this "Three's Company" also also reminded me of the third-season episode "Samantha's Protest". One thing that we confirmed a long time ago is that Katie was a total snot for the duration of this episode. However, the incident that I would like to concentrate on here has to do with her behavior at the actual demonstration. When the protest was about to start, Nell commanded everyone in the movement to lock arms. This was right when they were ready to sing. Any fool could have figured out that what they were supposed to do was wrap his or her arms around the arms of the two people on either side of them. This way, they would form a chain. In Katie's case that would have been Julie in her right arm and the handsome boy in her left. Katie, however, tried to capitalize on these instructions by using both of her little arms to grab the boy and snuggle up to him. Unfortunately for her, her touch, no-nonsense sister Julie used her left arm to grab Katie's right and spin her around. This was, Katie was facing in the same direction as all of the other protesters. This is where we come to the two different levels that I was reminded on "Gimme a Break!" by this episode of "Three's Company". It was similar to the former episode in that it dealt with the act of giving up smoking and it was similar to the later in that it dealt with people who do inappropriate things with their hands!
