View Full Version : Hiya! New poster here.
Ostaro1977 12-27-2015, 11:44 PM Hi everyone. Longtime UM fan here (although I must confess that in the 80s when it first came out, it scared the heck out of me...I was a child at the time), but brand new to the forums. I have been reading a lot of posts, and decided I just HAD to join your ever growing family! I just had a few questions about some of my favorite cases.
1.) Was there ever any closure to the case involving that young girl who thought she wouldn't live to be 16, and died shortly after? (Sorry her name escapes me.)
2.) The teenage couple that was murdered on their way from Washington to Canada (Jay Cook and Tanya...can't remember her last name). Did that ever find any leads on that? That one hits really home for me, as I grew up quite close to where they passed through.
3.) Also I was curious to some means of getting some old UM videos to watch. I know that sight that may not be named, no longer airs them, but it just seems odd to me that, if people indeed do want these cases to be solved, why make them rather difficult to view, to put the cases out there, ya know?
Anyways, I am glad to be here and looking forward to getting to know you all, and trying to contribute to this amazing site. (I am new to the whole forum/posting thing though, so please be patient with me.) Take care!
wiseguy182 12-28-2015, 12:55 AM welcome!
1) Kathy Hobbs. Although he was never convicted of her murder, Michael Lockhart was eventually connected to it. He had sentences in several other states and was executed in 1997.
2) Her last name was Cuylenborg. The killer has never been identified, although the letter writer has. It was a man with severe mental issues who is not believed to be the murderer.
LooksLikeCRicci 12-28-2015, 12:31 PM Welcome!
www.unsolved.com still puts out mini-segments on current missing persons cases. Every once in a while, they do a flashback to an old case profiled. The most recent I can think of is Rachael Runyon.
Ostaro1977 12-28-2015, 05:39 PM Thank you Wiseguy and CRicci for the warm welcome. So glad there are other people as fascinated by this stuff as I am! Also thank you for filling in the blanks in my memory Wiseguy, and for the link, CRicci. I will definitely check that one out! So tell me, do either of you, or anyone else who wants to chime in, have a particularly favorite case? One that you think about often, or one that seems as it should have been solved by now, but hasn't? Another one that sticks in my mind personally is the disappearance of Cynthia Anderson, from Toledo, Ohio. I would have thought LA or someone would have found some trace of her by now. I think she disappeared back in...1980? Heck I was only 3 at that time, but her case has haunted me for a long time. Poor girl...
Corkys-Place 12-28-2015, 06:06 PM Welcome to the board Ostaro1977! :) You'll find a wealth of UM related information among the hundreds of threads. Many of the posters here certainly know their stuff.
Ostaro1977 12-28-2015, 06:29 PM Thanks, Corky! That they do, my friend! I am anxiously awaiting getting to know many of them, and sharing my thoughts and theories on what I have read/heard on the cases. Also can't wait to meet the moderator, Crystaldawn. She has some VERY interesting theories and ideas, plus she seems really cool! Everyone on here does, to be honest. :)
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-29-2015, 08:07 AM Awesome and welcome. It's always great to see a friendly new poster who is a legit UM fan. You will fit in just fine. There are many threads available. When I was new here I often wanted to start new threads but then I realized that there are so many golden ones already. Just search and bump it and it will take back off. To this day I still come across old ones that amaze me. You already seem to know how to start a good new thread(and that's hard to do on here) so keep it coming
Btw the Washington case you are referring is that the one where they were last seen on the pugent sound ferry? I've only seen that segment once or twice but I still remember how creepy it was. I thought about it when I went to Seattle.
Ostaro1977 12-29-2015, 04:04 PM Thanks Dallas! Yup, that's the one. The two teenage lovebirds...was a very creepy case indeed. I lived in Shelton, Washington at the time, so they came very close to my town on their way through Allan/Hoodsport. My guess is that they met an unsavory character on the ferry who charmed them, then sadly took advantage of their kindness. Such a shame...:(
flytrapp 12-30-2015, 01:19 AM Welcome, Ostaro! You're gonna fit in well here :) As already mentioned, there are TONS of threads on here about almost everything UM...sometimes stuff gets repeated, but the site's members are good to point out original threads (one can get lost in all these posts over the years!). I feel like this site is kind of an UM reality show, yet online...we all get along pretty well, but once in a while a subject will get heated and someone will throw a glass of wine at someone else LMAO. Anyway, glad to have you aboard :)
crystaldawn 12-30-2015, 02:15 PM Welcome to the board Ostaro1977!
Ostaro1977 12-30-2015, 03:45 PM Thanks Flytrapp! So good to be here, and I'll be sure to wear a wetsuit when the wine begins to fly! Can't wait to see what new and interesting topics arise on the board...some of the questions and topics are absolutely amazing...makes many of us see cases in a whole new light. :)
Ostaro1977 12-30-2015, 03:46 PM Thanks Crystal! I have been anxiously awaiting the change to finally meet you! You, and many of the other members too of course, have done an amazing job of keeping this board alive for so many years! Many of your theories have really made me think, and see things on a whole different level! So glad to be part of the family!! :D
DazzlerSparkler 12-31-2015, 03:31 PM Hi! Welcome to the boards!
Ostaro1977 12-31-2015, 07:53 PM Thanks, Dazzler! Glad to be here, surrounded by so many like minded peeps! So many of these cases really do make you think outside the box. :)
dynoguy88 12-31-2015, 09:26 PM Welcome to the forum, Ostaro1977.
I have been posting on this forum for nearly 16 years. When I signed up for my account, sitcomsonline was in it's baby phase. And I have seen...a lot here. In my humble opinion, these are the three best reasons why you'll enjoy posting here:
1. The regulars here are incredibly nice and are capable of having regular, funny and serious discussions about ANYTHING. Many times we disagree with each other on certain aspects of a case but I'd say 95% of the time, the discussions are handled respectfully. We tend to dissect any case to death over the most minute details so don't ever worry about giving any possible theories you have that might seem out there.
2. We've had plenty of people from the actual segments post on here over the years; Jane Boroski, Sheila Kimmel, Cindy James' sister, Jeremy Bright's mother, Tammy Leppert's sister just to name a few. Their perspectives always add extra fascinating details to the cases and they always were very appreciative that we discuss their loved ones. Jeremy Bright's mother in particular (who was guided here after her daughter discovered this forum) mentioned reading every single page of the Jeremy Bright thread with a box of tissues, wiping away the tears because people were actually discussing her son's case while she has long been forgotten by law enforcement who really messed up the investigation. We've also had family members who came here and acted rude and disrespectful to the regulars here like relatives of Marvin and Sandra Maple but the good connections always outnumber the bad ones.
3. This place is pretty sweet when a case has been solved. If you could find the old threads where Kristi and Bobby Baskin were finally located or when the remains of Wendy Camp and her loved ones were found, we all had to pick our mouths up off the floor and then frantically posted any news report links by the hour so we were always caught up with the latest developments.
O.K., I've babbled waaaaaay too much. But welcome, again.
Ostaro1977 01-01-2016, 06:50 PM Hiya Dyno! Nice to meet ya! Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Everyone here has been very nice and welcoming to me, and I am very glad to see others like myself who haven't let a lot of these cases, even though many of which are very old, fall to the wayside. It's refreshing and inspiring to see so many people with their own theories and ideas of what may have happened. I am looking forward to seeing how things progress as we continue into 2016. Happy new year everyone!!! :D
