I've been eating pretzels and mustard together for years, both hard and soft ones, never thought of it being unusual. I feel like they were going for another sock and a shoe moment but it just didn't work as well this time.

I've seen the soft pretzels eaten with mustard all the time, hard ones rarely. BUT that doesn't mean I THINK it's weird. We all have our own specific food combos. Mine are catsup with potato chips and sour cream on Freach toast.

I remember when this first aired and my Mom made a comment about Archie never seeing this done! She thought it was strange being he was a New Yorker? Like Alan Brady's hair posted! I think this did originate on the East coast!

I prefer french fries with mustard. Archie would have a fit on that one! :lol:

Mustard in pretzels is big in Philadelphia but I don't know how big it is in Chicago, where Mike came from. Mustard on pretzels is not particularly popular in NYC. It's not unheard of, but it's not standard either. My problem with the episode is that Mike called them (I think) "giant" salt pretzels and they were maybe half the size of the ones you'd get from a typical street vendor in NYC.

I think it was all to give Archie and Mike something to debate about and nothing more. LOL! I like the mustard and pretzel thing once in a while, but typically I will use nacho cheese with a soft pretzel.

The celery/peanut butter thing actually sounds good in theory, but I do NOT like celery unless it's cooked in soup. I know - strange.

I love celery in tuna!! I also love the way celery smells!

Oh God, my mouth waters for soft pretzels and bagels- I LOVE doughy things! But both are REALLY BAD for me health-wise, and make my blood sugar rise as much as candy.

Melted cheese on soft pretzels. YUMMY! Mustard onsoft pretzels=nice. Melted cheese with a dab of mustard on a soft pretzel -divine. (I'm pretty much going from memory here but I know a heavenly tasting food when I see one!)

As of 1985 when I left Philly we were still just putting mustard on them! :D If cheese is the thing now, that does sound yummy. It's a good thing I still don't live there ,between pretzels with cheese, cheese steaks and hoagies or I'd be fat as a hog!!! :lol:

Yeah at the Philly Pretzel Factory they give you cups of cheese but I never get the cheese I normally just eat it plain
