You arrive at the restaurant and just sit down and taking off your jacket and the waitress just appears out of nowhere asking......"can I start you off with some drinks?"

Haven;t had a chance to get comfortable and sit down good and someone is asking what you want to drink

Then when they bring the drinks back, they say......."are you ready to order?"

I really be wanting to say this so bad............"Can you give me a f*cking minute to look at the menu"

Anyone else?

Now, Now................. Let's not be so hostile! Most likely the wait staff are instructed to ask those questions. Be kind to them. My sister was a waitress at Bob Evans for several years and had to put up with rude obnoxious customers. Give them a break! They are only doing their job! CHILL!

Agree. I've never waited tables, but I have done retail work, so I always try to see the other persons view.

I know but its that feeling of being rushed that gets to me. I mean she didn;t even allow us to look at the menu to see what beverages they had.

So she could have said......."do you need more time or do you know what you want to drink?"

Then when she came back she could have said......."do you more time to make a dinner selection?

See when those questions are asked it doesnt give off the feeling of being rushed outside the door

No! I'm the opposite, I hate if they take too long to acknowledge us! Esp. if it's a place that serves alcoholic drinks and we plan to have a cocktail. Nice to have that right off the bat! And than if they ask if we are ready to order too quickly, just tell them we need a few more minutes!

What I don't like is when they keep coming back to the table too many times when we already have food and drinks and keep asking if everything is OK!

LOL My dad hated the waitress refilling his coffee every 2 minutes. He got his cream and sugar just right then had to keep adding more. He had a real issue with that! I am a passive type person who doesn't like to make waves But there are times when I will speak up.:)

There's always the all you can eat buffet type places. Get what you want, when you want to.

I like buffets also but I tend to eat too much and then feel stuffed afterwards.

Does this happen to you --the waitress stops by and ask how your meal is just when you have your mouth full of food.

I once dated a waitress because we met that way, so there's that angle. NOTE- If you're with your significant other or already on a date , this is NOT recommended.

I'll agree to an extent.... it can be a bit frustrating, but it's not a big deal in my opinion.

Anyhow, you've made other threads complaining about waitresses. I think last time it was about a brunch you had with your mom and you were upset about your English muffin not being on a separate plate.

Maybe you're just looking for excuses to leave a crappy tip?

I think we all have our pet peeves when going out to eat. Mine is having to remind the waitress/waiter more than twice for something.

But regarding your situation Sol, when I experience "the rush", I just say with a smile, "can you give me a minute to settle in" - that always works. Serving the public can be a sucky job and maybe she was just following her boss's instructions.

It's always best to be polite to the wait staff especially if they are trying to be polite to you.

wow the areas you live in must be different than mine. I have a great time. Once and while the waitress disappears when I want more coffee and when she doesn't come by to check, the tip slips. One restaurant , a coffee shop place that i have only been to twice seems to always sit me in the area when patrons passed by which is near a door. I just say " can I change my seat. Once the change is made and my service is good, I give a bit more tip. The place is somewhat empty and I get stuck near the door. My complaint with many places, is they are so noisy.

They want you to order drinks early so you'll finish them faster and order another round. Plus, restaurants make more on drinks than the food. Not a great mystery.
