Overall, it’s unlikely that small variables are enough to account losses of 20%, and the four networks with such major drops may need to change things up for the future. Some larger factors that may have played into the 2015 struggles for A&E, MTV, FX, and USA are an overabundance of original scripted options that aren’t feeling quite so original anymore, as well as unscripted reality series that have begun to feel repetitive and stale. Without bona fide mainstream breakout hits to draw attention to the network as a whole, the channels have been slowly falling behind in the cable ratings race.
Regulus 12-18-2015, 02:10 PM People are cutting the cord, there are many alternates they can get their entertainment and informational needs meet that are far cheaper than Pay-TV and have little (if any) advertisements cluttering whatever show they are watching.
robyrob 12-18-2015, 06:10 PM A&E and USA are just pure garbage now - if I could tell my cable company to remove them I would, the only thing I can think of on FX is Fargo, which is excellent but not enough to keep a network afloat
and MTV has pretty much just been garbage since they got rid of the music and cartoons, but Faking It is awesome.
mets82 12-18-2015, 07:07 PM I never watch A&E or FX.MTV is hit or miss with me and the only stuff I watch on USA is WWE Monday Night Raw and an occasional movie, depending on the movie.
retrofan05 12-18-2015, 07:30 PM These networks need to consider offering stand alone apps that don't require a cable subscription. Part of the problem is the programming, but the bigger problem is that not enough people are watching live TV anymore. If they want to draw in more viewers, they need to get with the future and the future is not cable.
mets82 12-18-2015, 07:39 PM They need to lower the cable bills. I think for the price of cable and what's on the channels is lousy. There are so many channels that I don't watch and I think "why am I paying for this?"
Regulus 12-18-2015, 10:07 PM It's cheaper to purchase shows on home video than it is to subscribe to cable TV (I've been doing this for nine years now). When I cut the cord in January, 2007 a cable subscription cost $65.00 a month. Since then the price of cable has more than doubled  , yet the only direction I've seen home video prices go is DOWN! :D
UMFaninMD 12-18-2015, 11:26 PM A&E used to be excellent back in the day. It was pretty much the only channel apart from PBS to air British content, especially mysteries and dramas. It truly Unfortunately they jumped on the bandwagon of cheesy reality shows, most of which failed, apart from that awful Duck Dynasty. USA is a wasteland, FX only has Fargo and American Horror Story going for it, and MTV---I haven't watched since the early 90's.
jimpickens 12-19-2015, 01:31 AM WWE is the only thing keeping USA afloat.

USA is very much the wasteland, especially since it was given over to Law & Order. I grant that Law & Order and its spinoffs have fanbases, but it has never been my cup of tea, and as such, I miss when it had all those game shows ($ale, PYL, Pyramid, etc.-- USA was where I got my first exposure to all of those).
MrCleveland 12-19-2015, 03:48 PM USA used to be a great station it seemed with all the classic shows on there.
Is there a way that they can revamp that station with those shows again? Because the whole what's good for the goose concept isn't working!
I also wish that the reality show genre NEVER gets revived again...that was the downfall of quality television!
ESPN Ratings Have Dropped 10 Percent Overall in 2015 (http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/espn-ratings-have-dropped-10-percent-overall-in-2015.html)
loaferman 12-21-2015, 12:27 PM Too much of the same series playing over-and-over (if I liked it that much I'd buy the videos) and way too many commercials, edits, and sped up shows. As long as they keep making DVD players and Netflix to supplement the only reason I require cable is as my only alternative for internet with streaming speeds which they have a monopoly on around here.
loaferman 12-21-2015, 12:29 PM WWE is the only thing keeping USA afloat.
Their ratings are in a steady decline and they show no sign of changing up the show from the old tired repetitive format. They will probably invest in new sets and not change the actual product. It once was during times the show got stale there were far fewer alternatives.
Now they are out of touch, stuck in low gear, and too arrogant to change. Plus there are3 hours on Monday and they are moving over an additional 2 hours from Syfy to USA. Too much WWE which already has a declining niche audience.
icecream 12-21-2015, 05:09 PM Just a few years ago USA was my favorite cable network for originals, now the only thing I'll watch on the network is the occasional NCIS.
